Dawn Foster is a Jacobin staff writer, a columnist for the Guardian, and the author of Lean Out.  She joins us today to discuss what's going on in the UK. The New Labour period after Thatcherism. What's legitimate and illegitimate criticism of Corbyn in the british press? The unfortunate resurgence of the Liberal Democrats. Alistair Campbell's ouster from Labour and the state of Brexit.

Why doesn't UK Labour better articulate the message loud and clear that Varoufakis and DiEM and economists like Steve Keen (who are the few credible economists who understand monetary dynamcis and trade) are promoting? This is that the UE is a good project but only if each nation in the Union had sovereign control over their government deficit and currency, and the Euro simply a token money system for lubrication rather than fuelling the region's economy. When the Euro became a means for putting everyone but Germany into debt to the ECB and thereby imposing austerity (cutting pensions, reducing social welfare, etc) the EU was doomed, but it can still be rescued if the Euro is no longer used for such financial warfare and the ECB mandate completely re-written. I'd give Yanis and his team the job of drafting it.
