Ben Burgiss: the "more private housing" argument of the NYT is not just a false dilemma, it is a modelling error. First, if you take THEIR point of view that houses should be commodities then the goal should be to decrease the cost of housing, which the real estate market does not do, so pressure from good quality subsidised public housing is needed. Secondly, if you remove their assumption and say that a home is a right not a privilege, so homes people live in should be de-commodified, then in a wealthy resource rich country the first good quality houses to construct need to be where they are needed the most, so this is trickle up, not trickle down, exactly the opposite conclusion the NYT writer reached. Moreover, look at all the unoccupied apartments that are being kept purely as financial assets = total market failure. Anyone would think there is no lack of housing but a lack of people to put in the apartments!

Appreciate Marian Williamson, but can someone get these candidates using language more artfully. "We are bullies..." is utter crap. Most USA citizens (I guess) would be against sabre rattling, more especially if they knew most of the facts (or even just the neolib filtered CNN or MSNBC "facts"). The Republicans and neocons and neoliberals are the only bullies here. The USA as a society is distinctly non-bullish on foreign policy. They just don't get reflected in their current government make up. Am I being too pedantic? Think before you Tweet. You (or I) do not need to own the government you've got, but you do need to activate to reign it in, at least reign in your governments most insane elements. It's your government only nominally, if it does not represent you, then you must disown it and fight to and take back control of it.
