http://www.lh-st.com/Shows/08-24-2019+The+Michael+Brooks+Show

Ryan Grim (@RyanGrim) of The Intercept joins us to discuss his excellent new book on the recent history of the Democractic Party, "We've Got People: From Jesse Jackson to AOC, the End of Big Money and the Rise of a Movement." Tony Coelho, the man who sold out the Democratic party in the 1980s. The precursor to the Citizens United era. Jerry Brown's 1-800 number.  Obama's reception of new populist energy. The virtue of Elizabeth Warren. How populist energy will factor into the 2020 campaigns.

Great episode. A point of fact -- Tulsi deserves some credit on the 2016 endorsement. She resigned from the DNC and endorsed Sanders on Feb 28th (a day after the South Carolina primary). Also cut a great ad for him before the Hawaii caucus, which Sanders won in a blow-out. I would discount the endorsement less with respect to the timing in 2016 and more with respect to the 2020 run. A side angle worth looking into too with respect to the growth of the financial services industry in the 1970s is the move to go off the gold standard by Nixon and Paul Volcker's selection by Carter to the Fed (Carter also started the process of bank de-regulation). Yanis Varoufakis has a great book on some of the history of financialization in his book the "Global Minotaur". Well worth checking out.

Brooksy, crew, you gotta check out "Donald Trump's Reactionary Mind: Corey Robin at The Harvard Law Forum" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Rw0WNXNZUg ... brilliant itemization of how Paul Ryan totally failed and how Trump has in fact (against his and Ryan's stated agenda) protected and even enhanced most of Obama's social program advancements --- even with total control of all branches of government. It's fascinating. Conservatism is in total reactionary metldown. Practically their only governmental successes have been the Courts and the tax cuts (which are likely to cause a great recession soon). In the face of this failure of GOP conservatism you wonder why fascism is rearing its ugly head? It is capitalism's final dying gasp. I think a war with Iran will almost seal the death coffin over the GOP.

Good stuff @JP although I'd prefer Tulsi withdrew and backed Bernie, she is clearly running purely for self-promotion, but I don't blame her for that, she has good things on her agenda to promote.
