Daniel Bessner (@Dbessner) joins us once again, this time to discuss the history of the National Security Council, aka the president's "friends." What different nodes make US military policy. Kissinger and Brzezinski.  The rise of academic knowledge in the military. Carter's mixed record in foreign policy. Iran Contra and how norms never save us. Don't trust Democrat distinctions between 'smart' and 'dumb' wars. Building alternative structures to replace the national security state.

Well one solution Bessner probably has not considered is Daniel Bessner heads the Bernie Sanders NSC. Flipping the script of a fossil fuel exec heading the EPA, right?
