Duuuuuudddde hell yes!! I loved this conversation! I feel as though Marianne as able to reach people who may be financially secure so they don't have to pay as close attention because they will most likely be fine no matter who gets elected. Not everyone of course. But it's easy to get disengaged because life gets busy for everyone. But I love her too. So happy to have this message from her.

Great conversation. What's missing is a definition of terms, which is important for acknowledging people's widespread beliefs. For instance, I happen to think Marx was deeply spiritual. But in his day the dominant religious forms of spirituality were corrupt (still are). All spirituality is (and here I borrow from the Baha'i Faith outlook) basically, is awareness of abstractions like love, compassion, justice, honesty, wisdom, knowledge, mercy. These, among others, are the quintessential spiritual attributes. One is acting spiritually precisely when putting such qualities into material action. Religion is a system for trying to explain the source, but we do not need a theory of the source to acknowledge the reality of these abstractions in our physical material lives, indeed, to fail to acknowledge them harms us materially, because the human mind thrives on being mindful of exactly these virtues. Valid religion (if there is any) is a completion in the moral, spiritual and ethical sphere that science and materialism cannot provide. If you understand that, then anyone who was motivated by compassion and justice (as was Marx) is a deeply spiritual person. Militant Marxists and atheist socialists do their movements a grave disservice by neglecting this aspect of human life. For me, love, peace and compassion, and social justice are the core motivations behind wanting a more socialist society. So much so that I do not know how to separate the material politics and economics from the spiritual. I think it's impossible to do so if you are serious about eliminating oppression around the world..
