I'm originally from Alaska, so hearing Yang constantly throw out "oh it'll be the like the PFD and non-political" when talking about his UBI program is extremely frustrating. The Brenden Gallagher article is absolutely spot on and I think it's worth noting that very recently in Alaska the PFD has in fact become extremely political--Governor Dunleavy (R) promised a hefty amount per person this year (around $6,000) and tried to pass a budget that cut funding for resources from vulnerable (and almost exclusively Native populated) villages and other deep rural areas. If Yang or anyone else wants to draw parallels to the PFD they need to take a serious and actual look at the implications. You cannot say "everyone gets it so it isn't political" that's a gross misunderstanding at best and a lie at worst. It's deeply political and a republican overpromising with viscous intent robs healthcare and stipends from those most in need.
