I held my nose and voted for Clinton, but once Trump was in, hoped he might make good on the promises that I agreed with, but didn't think he could pull off. In most cases, he either got in bed with the Religious Right, supported typical Republican corporate interests, or both. As you point out, not in so many words, Johnson is WAY smarter than Trump (his friend Mary Beard, an old Labourite and Classics professor at Cambridge, claims he's got both Homeric epics, the "Aeneid", and much else besides, committed to memory in Greek and Latin, and not in a rote way), arguably funnier, and has quite a liberal record as Mayor of London. I hope you are wrong about Johnson, in that I hope he pulls the Tories further Left and moves the Overton Window. But if you are right, and he takes off the mask to reveal yet another Thatcherite, screw him. "The Spectator" contributors are bitterly divided over whether their old boss will be great or disastrous. The "Guardian" keens and wails, as always, masters of woke-scolding. Waiting to see if he sells out the NHS....if so, you were probably right about him all along.(biting nails)

Baba Ram Dass (Richard Alpert) April 6, 1931 - December 22, 2019 “My life has been a dance between power and love,” “First part, till Harvard: power, power, power, power. Up until drugs, I thought power was the end all and be all, because I was a little individual. Then drugs: love, love, love, love. My first mushroom trip was so profound that I saw radiance was inside, and I said, ‘I’m home, I’m home, I’m home.'”  “You are loved just for being who you are, just for existing. You don’t have to do anything to earn it. Your shortcomings, your lack of self-esteem, physical perfection, or social and economic success – none of that matters. No one can take this love away from you, and it will always be here.” “As we grow in our consciousness, there will be more compassion and more love, and then the barriers between people, between religions, between nations will begin to fall. Yes, we have to beat down the separateness.” “Compassion refers to the arising in the heart of the desire to relieve the suffering of all beings.” "We are all affecting the world every moment, whether we mean to or not. Our actions and states of mind matter, because we are so deeply interconnected with one another." "I would say that the thrust of my life has been initially about getting free, and then realizing that my freedom is not independent of everybody else. Then I am arriving at that circle where one works on oneself as a gift to other people so that one doesn't create more suffering. I help people as a work on myself and I work on myself to help people." "We're here to awaken from the illusion of separateness"

I'm not sure why you think these faux populists like Trump and Johnson will actually buck the conservative establishment. They are firmly in the pocket of financial interests, just like the rest of the conservatives on both sides of the Atlantic. Of course he's a Thatcherite- he wants to make the UK into another "Singapore". That means deregulate deregulate deregulate. Corbyn exposed the plans that put the NHS on the table for trade negotiations with the US post-Brexit. Johnson may use populist rhetoric, but he knows who is calling the shots at the end of the day- Capital
