Paul O'Connell (@pmpoc), reader in law at SOAS Law joins us to discuss the post-Corbyn leadership labour party. Should people have been shocked by Corbyn's loss and the extent to which his loss was determined by Brexit. How Boris Johnson's exploited the schism and why he and Trump show how the threatening the populist right can be. Rebecca Long-Bailey vs Keir Starmer. Electability. The current weakness of the UK Left and what Labour didn't do under Corbyn. The urgent need for working class empowerment.

This has to be said: Brexit has barely begun, it’s not going ANYWHERE any time soon

The key take away from this - don't only focus your organizing efforts on electorialism and Bernie, also focus efforts on building the labour movement, environmental movement, immigrant rights movement, anti-war movement - progressive movements in general so we can fight on the streets for Bernie's policies whether he is in office or not.

Very informative and many blanks filled in

Thank you for this interview. Addressed a lot of the issues I've been concerned about for the progressive left in America in regards to how we best organize in the future post-Bernie era, either 2024 or 2028. The movement will always be based on people power and that's why I think Trumpism will die without a Trump, but Bernie's plan has legs to form a framework for the next 25-50 years of American politics, if successful.
