Great interview. Tories are neither Republicans nor religious fanatics, nor, as in the US, required to pander to religious fanatics. If Johnson pulls that party leftward economically and it de-Thatcherizes, good. Maybe that is good for the Overton Window, Long-term. My own politics change according to the country and context. Social Democrat here in the US, where the safety net is disgraceful. In France or any Scandinavian system, I would likely be an arch-conservative, because social democracy is what I would wish to conserve. If the French or the Danish don’t want open borders, I have nothing judgmental to say to them. What they are trying to preserve is extraordinary. What we’ve got is pretty embarrassing. At any rate, it’s likely to be a long and acrimonious battle to get anything like a French safety net here, so Bernie 2020 and 2024!!!! Would love to hear more from Aaron.
