The first person I voted for, when I was 18 years old, was Ross Perot. Even then, I had an instinct that this neoliberal stuff was a huge problem. When the budget was balanced under Clinton—we even had a surplus—I thought maybe I was wrong, that maybe it had worked. It’s clear now that it didn’t, and that whatever economic boom was created, was created at the expense of American workers with good union jobs. That whole class of people was absolutely gutted.

And I should add, although I often take a more nationalist view than you all, that it ALSO gutted whole local food/product ecosystems in other countries, whose farmers couldn’t begin to compete with our imports. Some “free market”! I hope I live long enough to see this shit undone.
