Russell Sbriglia, Assistant Professor and Director of Undergraduate Literature Studies at Seton Hall University, joins us for a psychoanalytic treatment of our contemporary politics. What is "Death Drive" and what is a "Death Cult"?  Why centrist dems may be better patients for Freud than Trumpists. Who is and isn't laughing at Trump.

Check out Russell's book, "Subject Lessons. Hegel, Lacan, and the Future of Materialism," co-edited with Slavoj Zizek.

While there were some really good discussions, I had some problems following the flow, there was an important theme, then a diversion, then a return to a topic, but without clear linkage, of course it could have just been a couple of glasses of wine I had.

Liked this video a lot as a fan of Zizek and using psychoanalysis to analyze politics in general. Would love for you guys to have Russell on again or any left leaning Lacanian theorist.

For other people to consider on psychoanalysis and politics, I'd also look into Adrian Johnston (U New Mexico) and Todd McGowan (University of Vermont). Both excellent scholars in their own right while also being aligned with Zizekian strands of thought.
