Aren’t the Republicans closer to economic populism? They don’t mind spending money. Already, Trump is telling us that he wants the government to pay for testing and treatment of Covid 19. Democratic leadership is corrupt and non-competitive, and only care about keeping their own power.

The Republicans don't mind spending a ton of money to help the super-wealthy. Even in terms of the emergency relief for COVID-19, 70% of the money is going to the super-wealthy -- it's flowing out with less oversight and less bureaucracy. It's an elite project. Even in terms of people like Carlson and Josh Hawley, they are effectively just mouthpieces for the Koch Bros and their allies. Boris Johnson's efforts in the UK are a much better example of right populism. e.g. spending in ways that support a segment of the working class.

The Sanders run was a necessary intervention. At this point though, I hope that Ventura runs. The Green may be hapless, and third parties may be doomed in our system. But the way that things are going with the Dems, Ventura would at least offer a positive vision and something that people could vote for. What the Dems and the GOP are offering is just pure electoral nihilism.

I just listened to Nick Brana. They are starting the People’s Party. I would love to see him on your show. Keep up the great work! Thank you for the reading lists and excerpts. I love what you are doing.
