Great Ghouls and the Soulless

I still can't believe that the reality that allows a man like Michael to die can exist. I've been avoiding grieving because I know there are people closer than me who feel it more. I appreciate the continuing efforts to produce important commentary. God, Buddha, Vishnu, Allah, et al bless.

Massively appreciate the reading list in this episode! I'm a developer for a small business: audiobooks.com and a good chunk of the books mentioned are available with us as an alternative to Audible. First book is free, and the app is awesome. :)

I think the Texan Matt was talking about was Wright Patman, the congressman who took on Andrew Mellon. Matt Stoller writes about him extensively in Goliath, a recent history of the antimonopoly movement and the corporate and financier backlash.

Great show guys. Please keep them coming. Can y’all post the book lists in he show notes? Peace and Solidarity.

In response to the question about regions and cultures pushing for independent statehood, I would sometimes take notes from TMBS shows when Michael would articulate in his clear fashion. Here are his words: “If you’re in a situation where your basic civil rights and cultural autonomy are under threat and the straightest line to deal with that is getting a state, I support you having a state.” Michael Brooks

Found this proto-debunk segment. Are there more, or was this a one-off joke or like an idea that just wilted on the vine so to speak, which michael then had Ben burgis on to revive https://youtu.be/z8-vFDSJCPs

@Griscom: Thanks for the Althusser on Machiavelli recc. In a similar vein, I was wondering if you have read Althusser's collection of essays on Lenin and whether you would recc that too as a companion to reading Lenin? If not, or if you have other reccs on that topic, do suggest who you think is good for theoretical commentary on Lenin. Thanks.

Lisha, an alternative to Audible: audiobookstore.com ! Their app was updated this year, too. I'm listening to The Black Jacobins on it right now, and I also heard Howard Zinn there. I read a 2019 novel, too

Althusser's writings on Lenin are very good especially if you are interested in reading Lenin as a philosopher. - David

What is the appeal of right-wing politics in countries that enjoy the kind of social safety net that leftists in the U.S. aspire to have? Example: Any Scandinavian country.
