Hope y'all are well. For this week's what we are reading I'd like to highlight this important work by the American socialist Hal Draper. In his piece "The Two Socialisms" he sketches out a brief history of socialism and puts forward a very interesting thesis regarding socialism from above and socialism from below. Very important piece.

I'd also like to draw your attention to two recent Jacobin videos, one by me on "Socialist Greatness" and another great debate on Jacobin between Christian Parenti and Leigh Phillips on nuclear power.

Another fascinating piece here by Bridget Read on a fascinating and horrific story of gentrification, the wellness industry, and worker's rights. An important update from Levitz on the FED policy. And a great argument by Liu and Krapp on meritocracy focusing on both the how it exists, but crucially why. Lastly, it's behind a paywall, but I highly suggest reading Murphy's piece on Japan's recent political history, the piece takes an important focus on the bureaucracy and the BOJ.

As always reach out with any thoughts,

David Griscom

Nice. I haven't read any of these and my wife recently expressed interest in some joint reading in some of these topics :) Thank you for this

Also, I saw that Griscom video about a week ago so my memory my be unreliable but I remember David had some slightly uncharacteristic fire going along with his commentary that I'd like to see more of. Great stuff
