TerinCat finished the cover art I was commissioning from her. It's very good, but... I don't think it's what I wanted. It has great realistic details, but they're applied in a way that just makes how cartoony they look stand out even more. Maybe it'll grow on me? What do you guys think of this for our cover art?

I really like it. I think you should pay the artist and thank her. :)

It is a bit toony, but in the way Jessica Rabit is toony and it looks pretty good. I can't imagine it any other way now that I've seen it.

I like Steph and Kelly, and the bystanders are ok. The background itself seems a little off to me. Every con I've ever gone to had tons of posters, banners and advertising on the walls, pillars and really any surface you could stick them on.

I find Steph's face a bit odd (don't know why) and I agree with ukyo_rulz that the background is a bit plain. But the cover wouldve successful in its purpose. If i found this on Amazon I would definitely check it out

It's pretty amazing, in my eyes. I was skeptical through the project but the final version is beautiful.

I think the difference between shading and painting (from her other works) is causing the cartoon-y look. If you don't like it then perhaps you could have a compilation of artwork from various artists that doesn't make it into the published book and stays online as bonus content (or ships separately in poster form as a high(er) tier patreon benefit?).

I think it's good but I don't think it fits the cover. Maybe the back cover?

I really like it. I think having a toon undertone to their appearance isn't a bad thing. The subject matter of the material delves a little bit into a magical-fantasy realm with the power of the charm and all, so I think having art reflective of the fact that it's not a hyper-realistic story is a good thing. I agree with what somebody else said: It reminds me of Jessica Rabbit; there's some stylizations and obvious cartooniness to it, but the overall appeal of the form, figure, and subject is definitely still there.

I like it a lot so take that for what you will.

Oh, just realized that this is meant to be the front cover. I was simply evaluating on my artistic appreciation of it, but I suppose let me reflect on its merit as the cover art of a series. It does give me a bit of that romance manga vibe where it features some of the girls from the series prominently on the cover, but at the same time, it's almost too detailed for that genre-style cover. They tend to just have their chosen figure suspended in a low-detail or entirely abstract background area. There's plenty of room in the image to suspend a title or something like in the empty space near the ceiling so it could work for that. Overall, I think that this could be made into a fairly work-able front cover image. Despite all of that, the general tone I'm getting from it makes me feel like it's a mid-chapter-insert kind of deal. Like the kind where you turn a page in a book and they really wanted to hand out the fan service so there's a beautiful, full-color illustration on the page depicting a scene that just happened or something.

I really like it. I kinda hope we get to see the other characters in the same style.

Sebas Tian

I second that! Cept foxy, screw him...

I was surprised at how toony it turned out. It is mostly the saturated colours and the contrast of the green panties. As cover art it seems to go farther than I’d expect. Still it is an okay choice. And from a technical point of view I think it is done well.

Hmm i have a few suggestions: 1. The Background is too light. The pillars/walls are light grey, the clothes of bystanders are light. This kinda takes the focus away from Steph n Kelly. I think it should be darker maybe dark grey/ dark blue. Could even change the time of day to night. 2. Steph here is the 2nd design you got back? i think the 3rd one with closed lips and dimples look better. Also I thought you were gonna go with the transformed pink hair/ red highlights? 3. The crowd also needs to be more indistinct so as to not take away attention from the main 2. The greens in the background need to go and should have more dark colors. I think that's my main complain, the background isnt background enough it takes away from the main characters.

There is nothing worse for an artist than "design by committee" Everyone will have their own opinion of what looks good or is appropriate. Try not to over think it and just go with what resonates with you.
