With John and his son, it's more sinister than that. The big thing about that is that it was a Nazi regime thing to kill off what they considered "defective" genes or diseases. One of the big tenants of Nazism was to have a pure race, and having any diseases, especially genetic ones, could not be allowed to be passed on, whereas in normal societies, he would just live with the disability. Heydrich was also one of the architects of the Holocaust and a very high ranking officer under Hitler. Let's see if we can continue in October so we can see the season finale, because it's getting good!

Yeah, you're right. To even begin to imagine oneself living in such a society is a nightmare. I always felt uncomfortable watching any scenes in the Reich (felt like our characters could get attacked at any moment). For the scenes in the JPS, I didn't feel as uncomfy but there was a blanket of anger and horror seeing the Kempeitai soldiers (the Japanese military police i.e., the Imperial Japanese equivalent to the Nazi SS) running around San Francisco and elsewhere. Good to point out Reinhard Heydrich! I find it an interesting touch that the production used a number of historical figures as characters in the show, particularly those in America (i.e., Nazi supporters in the US).

Yo, I just finished watching the entire show today. What a crazy, crazy adventure. All throughout, I think there are more deaths per episode in this show than in Detective Conan! Lol. So, so violent good grief. I was stressed every episode; the only times I felt comfortable was in scenes with Minister Tagomi (he's such a calm presence throughout the show). It's the most dark show and story I've watched in recent memory that it got me more keenly aware about how thankful I am to not live in a horrifying reality like this story and that history went the way it did.

To point out the sales scene, when the wife says the item has 'wu' (which means great sorrow), she was right to feel that as Frank made this while carrying great sadness and grief. Right feeling, attributed to the wrong person.

The men who took them were with the Yakuza. 100,000 Yen is $1,000. 10,000 Yen being $100, 1,000 Yen being $10, and so on. Not too much for us now, but at the time (in real history), 100,000 Yen was a large sum due to significant differences in living costs and inflation.

Lol yea, it was one of those shows where I was glued to the TV. Tagomi was definitely one of my favorites in the show, and I loved how crucial his part in everything was. Hopefully Jay eventually gets to finish seeing the whole series!
