Throwback Thursday: Wild Flower (Patreon)
Content
A wildflower sprouting in the midst of concrete.
See, how nature endures?
I snapped this around May 2019.
I had longed to live in New York City since I was a girl... and I happened upon a room there (with no effort on my part) one random day in July 2018.
I was visiting the area, a sweltering Fourth of July weekend. A friend of a friend reached out.
“You don't know me, but a friend of ours told me that you’re in New York City. If you happen to be looking for a room, I have one available in Bushwick, starting in September.”
I knew in an instant that was my room.
What followed was a wild and most synchronistic migration from Austin to New York City that summer, after having been in the south for seven years.
Come springtime, 2019.
My whole life changed that spring and summer.
Anyone’s first year in New York will leave them forever altered. Mine was one for the books.
Covid wasn’t too far behind, either… which has been a whole ‘nother saga.
What a time.
I do love this photo. I came across it in an old dropbox folder today.
I love the animal print nightgown, with superimposed flowers. I took both of these photos, and made this playing around in a photo editing app.
I have some visions for self-portrait work I would like to do, with flowers.
Flowers feel like an ever present theme for me.
I imagine they always will be.
I have been that flower in the concrete.
