Every part that’s angry
Every part that hurts
Every part that’s ecstatic
The best, and the worst
I have a dear friend who’s going through a really hard breakup. A fellow writer, songbird, performer, and beautiful soul.
I sent her this little rhymey pick-me-up.
Go. Write it. Dance it. Sing it.
One of the reasons many (most? all?) artists turn to their craft is because it doesn’t judge what we need to say. It give us room to just say it — with all the love, pain, rage, hatred, or ecstatic delight one can muster.
And even when we feel numb, turned off, uninspired — the creative pursuit is still there, waiting for us to pick up the pen, the paint, the camera.
Creativity is a means to express the inexpressible. It allows us to give meaning to seeming meaninglessness, order to chaos — sometimes, chaos to order.
The page, the stage, the canvas, the microphone, in front of or behind the camera… these are the ultimate safe spaces for us to share our humanity.
I’m not even talking about other people seeing or experiencing it.
I’m talking about creation for the sake of creation.
We all have access to that.
We all deserve that.
Our creativity will always answer the door with a warm smile, and an invitation to Come On In.
We must be the ones to take that first step.

Qs: How will you use your creativity today, or how will you allow it to use you? What can you make with what materials you have? What wants to be said through you right now?
