Recently I bought three Asian releases of GTA V on PS3, PS4 and Xbox 360. These are very strange releases and here is why.

Regions

If you used to play on PS3, then you probably know that every single game has a unique code. If you live in EU, then it is usually starts with BLES and if you live in US, then it is BLUS. If you are a collector, then you might collect JP releases and they usually start with BLJM.

In short, if you buy a game, where you see BLES-12345 code on the cover, then it should be BLES-12345 version burned to the disc. Even if EU and US versions are the same, they must have a different executable inside, which stores at least the unique disc code.

Did you know that there is yet another region.... a strange Asian region? Have you heard of it? I didn't.

American release

The problem with these Asian GTA V releases is - they are not real Asian releases at all. Every single "Asian" release has American version inside. All files are the same, even the executable.

On the other hand, they changed manuals and the cover a bit.

No rating

If you look at these Asian releases, you won't find there an age restriction. In other words, the Asian releases are unrated. Does it mean, that kids in Asia can freely buy this version and play it?  😵

According to Xbox 360 site, they don't even have game rating system at all, so yeah...

English & Chinese

Despite the fact that everything is written in English (manuals, map, cover), you can find some sentences in Chinese, I think.

What is more interesting is the fact that both PS3 and PS4 releases mentions that the game has both English & Chinese subtitles.

But as we know, American version has more languages inside.

Why they highlighted Chinese? Is it a Chinese release? Why did they translate just a few sentences then? Why did they decide to print everything in English?

According to the "Technical support" section, this version is suitable for Singapore, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Final tidbits

Some final tidbits:

~~~
Xbox 360 release was made in Singapore.
PS3 and PS4 release was printed in Singapore while discs were made in Japan.
~~~

Since PS3 and PS4 are region free consoles, there is no problem to play these games on any PS console.

~~~
On the other hand, Xbox 360 is not a region free console and people won't be able to play it outside NTSC-J region. Why do people order it on amazon.com then?
~~~

Xbox 360 release contains a Region Free version, however it requires NTSC-J console... Maybe it has something to do with the disc protection. Thankfully I have a softmodded console.

 ~~~
Xbox 360 release came in a unique DVD case.
Conclusion
This is a very strange release.
Everything is printed in English.
Includes American release.
Well, I thought that these releases might contain some unique and exclusive files or something else. I was wrong.
I think I know why everything is in english and chinese. Because many "Asian" releases are in english with either english and / or chinese subtitles, because they can't translate it for every single asian language down there. Thats also why these releases are very often imported to Europe or America, so they can play unreleased or uncensored, mostly anime, games. You can find many releases on Play-Asia: <a href="https://goo.gl/YVCzCN" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://goo.gl/YVCzCN</a>
