My thoughts on Patreon so far (Patreon)
Content
Maybe this makes me bad at math (I am), but I would rather have 45 dollar patrons than 5 ten dollar patrons. It’s a question of stability. In the first case, if something happens with one patron, I’m only down one buck. But in the second case, losing 20% of my expected income for a month is devastating.
Someday, I’d like to quit my job and dedicate my full time to creating art and comics. I’d like to go to school again, take art classes, improve, and produce even better content. All of those goals rely on a certain degree of financial security. At this early stage, the dollar value I am earning per month doesn’t matter half as much as growing my audience. With more patrons per month, I can confidently set goals, deliver on content, take more risks, and continue to grow as an artist.
That’s what one dollar a month means to me.
This is a bonus comic I've decided to make for the end of the month, and doesn't factor toward the page-a-week promise. Look forward to another Dark Souls comic starting this Friday!
