Ethan turned his head, watching the heavy hair swish around him. It was mesmerizing and terrifying. He looked completely vacuous. He looked like the kind of girl who carried a chihuahua in a purse.
“I can’t believe this is me,” Ethan mumbled, staring into his own shocked face. “My dad… if he saw this… he’d have another heart attack.”
“Your dad wanted the company saved,” Claire said firmly, her voice dropping. “Elena can save it. Ethan can’t. Remember that.”
Ethan turned in the chair, tilting his head as the heavy ponytail flopped to the side. He looked at Sam with genuine distress.
“But Sam, seriously,” Ethan pleaded, his voice cracking. “Look at this. It’s not just the color. It’s the vibe. I look… I don’t know how to say this without sounding mean, but I look like I don’t know how to do math.”
Sam burst out laughing. “EXACTLY!”
“That’s not a good thing!” Ethan argued, gesturing to his chest. “I’m supposed to be a scientist! An intern! If I walk in looking like… like this, nobody is going to trust me with a test tube. They’re going to ask me to fetch coffee.”
