An enlistee deserts the army and now Jun-ho and Ho-yeol must track him down, but this deserters motives are a lot different than most. Constant hazing and harassment pushes Cho Suk-bong into doing something he will regret... Make sure to drop a like if you're enjoying our D.P. reactions!

I don't think the newly deserter guy (Cho Suk-bong) was beating up his subordinates bc he was getting beat up. I think the main bully (his superior, the guy from Weak Hero Class) was mandating him to - the exchange they had after lights out before he went out with his buddies? That was probably his cue, which is why he also intervened when JunHo let them go. Cho Suk-bong is the one in earlier episodes who told JunHo something like "let's be nice to our subordinates when it's our turn" when they were doing the shift change at the military prison, but his harassment is getting crazy! Such a horrible situation he is in.

Also just wanted to let you know before you guys film your reaction to the last episode of season 1, there is a really important end credit scene I hope you don't miss

P.S. did you notice JunHo's sister is the girl from Weak Hero Class?

i don't completely agree with this assessment. being 'mandated' to bully your subordinates is not a viable excuse to actually bully them. you saw the way that junho 'disobeyed' the order to punch them. you have choices you can make, especially when it's not from an actual commanding officer. i think that sukbong went along with it not out of fear for himself, but because it was his chance to hold some kind of power. he definitely did not feel sorry for the abuse he was showing them. it's a very twisted thing, but studies have actually shown that people who are abused have a higher tendency to abuse others as well. while he may have been goaded in to doing this in the beginning, he very much could have handled it differently when he was by himself, and certainly not use his friend as a reason to treat the others like that. same way ho yeol took junho away from everyone and 'beat' him in the supply shed. there are choices you can make, and while being beaten may be a consequence, you still have the choice. all this being said, it is really just an overall tragedy that this goes on in the world, not just these specific instances. bullying in general is just a physically and mentally abusive tactic for control. humans can really suck sometimes.

You're both right in some ways. I'm someone that's heard countless stories from numerous relatives and friends that have actually served in the krn military (krn guys that served will never shut up about the topic once they start) and they've talked about this show A LOT when this aired. According to them, they immediately knew the emotions Sukbong was feeling and they said he's mentally losing it bc of all the stress he's been enduring. We saw since the beginning how Sukbong was bullied for everything: being called fat, always being called an "otaku", slandered of "going from a Judo star to an otaku", and all the embarrassing/physical abuses the boy went through (we just saw the guy pull his pants down in front of another dude). His level of stress would mentally and emotionally break him. So sure, Snax is right that he could've handled it differently like how Hoyeol did with Junho, but like Sukbong said to him, he wouldn't understand bc he's never inside as much to fully experience what he's going through. And like Purple said, his seniors did mandate him to "discipline" his immediate juniors bc that's the broken hierarchy system in place (which is the whole point of the show) otherwise he'd get beat up for it, which he did when Junho sent them to bed without a "proper discipline".

Of course I'm not excusing his actions and he didn't have to do that, but I was just saying it did not seem like it came from a place of him thinking "oh I was beaten so let me beat up these guys" like they reacted. Of course ultimately everyone has a choice like JunHo, but like he said JunHo is not there getting the daily constant physical, emotional, and now sexual abuse he is getting. The main bully, who is his senior, did say something to him after lights out, before he stepped out. That was probably his cue or "mandate" and Korea esp the military being such a hierarchical society, you're supposed to follow orders. And at the end of it all, when he saw JunHo was able to say no and escape cycle, I thought he did look conflicted, remorseful and emotional. Just my interpretation.
