oh GODDDD im not looking forward to this one and the tears 😢

I like to think that last kiss on the stairs is what dexter wishes he had done, as we didn't see it before

It's nearly 1.00a.m. here in the U.K. Great reaction. You all did better than me at holding back the tears. I am not ashamed to say I cried a lot. They say Edinburgh will have four times as many tourists this year as a direct result of the show. I bet Arthur's Seat will be packed on July 15th. I may go myself. Reported here this week that Leo will be or already has been considered as the next James Bond. This show will stay in my memory for a very long time.

I love this show so much and was such a sobbing mess by the end of this episode. Thank you for your wonderful reactions <3 Fun fact I booked a trip to Edinburgh before I even watched or heard of this show and now i'm even more excited to go

So kind of y’all to give me a reason to procrastinate doing dishes 🤗 I love this show more the more I watch it. They really did grow up together. It also blew my mind a little realizing that all along the significance of the titular one day we are seeing is that it’s Emma’s death day. It’s been lovely rewatching this with you guys even if it keeps making me cry.

Me crying all over again during this episode watching it with you guys. 😭😭😭 whyyy.. 🥲🥲🥲 such a tragic ending to Emma’s story. I just can’t even. I am hopeful for Dexter to be able to continue to live life for his daughter. 😭😭

The last kiss actually happened…in the book, the kiss is withheld from the reader until the very end and it’s described as the sweetest kiss either one of them would ever know.

Syd

the ending was just so bittersweet in so many ways but I think it’s a great lesson to love and appreciate the important people in your life as much as you can because you never know one day they could just not be here anymore. Also a great reminder to always take the chance at love and don’t beat around the bush because as shown by dex and emma’s what if kiss at the end their lives together could have been so much different if they actually expressed their mutual interest in each other earlier. Tilly is one strong woman because Emma’s death day is also her and Graham’s wedding anniversary and she wants to spend that day every year honoring Emma’s life. I just love their friendship so much. it’s just so heartbreaking that people lose the love of their life so soon and so tragically

ambika said in an interview that they did a take (which ended up not being used) in a scene where dexter is crying in his childhood bed leo woodall saying ‘i’ve wasted so much time’ which basically sums up my heartbreak when it comes to these two. the timing not being right but when it was right they were so happy 😭

Such a beautiful, beautiful series! Amazing chemistry between the actors and just amazing acting overall! I can’t wait to see what the two leads do next…😭

Anna

As someone who enjoyed both the original book and the subsequent film adaptation, I loved this new television adaptation of the story. I found this version to be incredibly captivating, as it managed to construct a stunning and sincere love story while still staying true to the original tragic narrative. It truly exceeded all expectations. I am so glad you guys enjoyed it!

Ian being the one to make me tear up first was not on my Bingo card. Yet here we are.

🥹🥹🥹 very hard episode to watch

My therapy after watching this is to go back to ep 12-13 and pretend the ending never happened

That line in the book BROKE me because it also meant that Dexter would never experience a kiss (and a love -implied) like that in the future.

Another fun easter egg: Dexter was supposed to say ‘you were the whole story’ in Arthur’s seat aher past Emma said she didn’t want to be a footnote in his life. But they scraped it.

Meera

bawling 😭😭

It’s not a what if kiss but I think it was left to interpretation on purpose. Having said that, it’s canon in the book the kiss really did happen just like the conversation on Arthur’s seat about Emma not wanting to be a footnote in his life. I think the kiss was there to reinforce the idea that Dexter always knew he had feelings for her and he didn’t want to be just her friend, as she proposed. He gave her his number, which she told him she didn’t want. He invited her to his parents home to show her he didn’t want to randomly bump into her one day. And he sent her weekly postcards, postcards she told him she didn’t want. The scene on the steps was basically Dexter telling Emma ‘i don’t want us to be just friends’. And they never were ~just friends.

I agree! He always wanted her. He may not have been ready for a serious relationship initially but he always wanted her.

Love this interpretation even if it wasn't really meant like that. (And also makes me think that maybe they wouldn't have lasted if they had ended up together right after they met.) And in general it's nice that there are things that can be interpreted differently depending on who's watching!

Kind of prefer that they left these out, they didn't need to be said out loud to be understood. And not sure I would've handled the sadness anymore if Dex would've said them 😭
