Regarding TrashTV (Patreon)

Hey Tier 2 Patrons,

We want to address a recent change to our TrashTV benefit.

Unfortunately, this change was out of our hands, and we're truly sorry for any disappointment it has caused.

We’ve taken note of your initial feedback, completely understand your concerns, and now have two options to consider:

1. Keep the TrashTV benefit in its new form, with a timecode displayed at the bottom.

2. Replace TrashTV with a new benefit, which would require some time to come up with (your ideas are welcome).

I only have access on mobile so I would appreciate a new benefit, as much as yall reacting to trash tv is as good as it gets for me, it’s just inaccessible for me and too many others

I kinda figured one day DMCA would come knocking once certain Patreon’s got large enough. I personally don’t think that this new format makes for a good experience for anyone and my vote would be to just start doing something else instead.

I usually watch patreon content on my phone which makes the timestamps tricky, I would prefer option 2, but I'll miss yeah tv 😔💔

I’d prefer the new format over no trash tv. It’s the only reason I’m tier 2. I will say it was a super weird choice to just upload the new format with no warning.

The time stamps are a tad annoying but I'm to invested in Gossip Girl at this point , I don't think I could watch it without commentary though. I'll adjust

This new format works for me personally as long as the show is on netflix, but I think largely this benefit is now inaccessible for a lot of people and will overall hurt the patreon membership if it's like this long term, unfortunately

I’d say option 2. Just replace it. It relies on too many extra factors being in place for patrons to enjoy it, and we shouldn’t require an additional subscription in order to fully engage with our patreon subscription. Sorry to hear it’s out of your hands though I wish it didnt have to change. Maybe keep it reaction based but react to youtube/other already free content. Alternative perk idea: do a livestream for only patrons once a week/fortnight/month, idk what yall could stream but you’re already streamers and the pod used to be live anyway so surely it’d be easy to figure out even it was without structure and more just chatting with each other/the audience.

I think its fine! Was just a bit shocking out of the blue. Atleast I think you should finish Gossip Girl, and then you could reevaluate.

It is fine the way it is, only children think it’s okay for the ladies to be a medium of pirating a show for them and should understand that this is the norm in the reaction community, to use timecodes for full reactions. You two do a lot already, people wanting more are the unreasonable ones here. I say keep it as is.

Something else, please. It is too much of a hassle like this and involves paying for another subscription to get to use the benefit for this subscription.

I think keep TTV for a bit and see how it goes.. it's a change, people are hesitant for changes anyway so it needs time to see how people actually feel. I'd be sad to see it go, at least finishing GG would be nice then maybe replacing TTV

I think trying something new- it works fine for me but sounds like it’s effecting some people! Bummer that the policy changed and I’d also be in favor or trying different things so see what works best.

Commenting again because I am opinionated. Groups that will be excluded from this benefit by keeping it: People living outside of America (not on netflix in many countries) Mobile viewers (cant watch 2 things at once) People with 1 monitor (not impossible but inconvenient having to put both on one screen) Lastly and most obviously people without a Netflix subscription for any reason In short: PLEASE JUST REPLACE IT And for people saying they need to finish the show which are mostly people who have access to it, you can finish it yourself. They never finished Jersey Shore either. Also they barely say anything while watching anyway.

i would love to keep trashtv because i really enjoy it but i agree with "cat named ducky"'s comment that people like me, from outside the US would probably not be able to watch along certain shows which makes it pointless. need some time to brainstorm what would be a good replacement for trashtv but itll be fine

if the video isnt shown it can just be an audio podcast with some type of sync sound thing.

I think it's quiet common and is like a commentary track without the video. It was more rare to have the video shown, I'm used to time syncing commentary tracks (am a film nerd). Theres always ways to watch it, could also do discord watchparties in the meantime. I vote to keep it unless someone comes up with a good replacement

I don’t usually watch trashTV so feel like I’m maybe biased but it’s a certainly a turn off for me, it would prevent me from catching up/watching trashTV in future (I always planned to binge watch to catch up with GG but haven’t got round to it yet) so I would say replace it with something else. Someone suggested the idea of a stream just for tier 2+ one a week or month, that’s a fun idea. I don’t know the practicalities of that though. I also agree with everything Cat Named Ducky said

I say keep it with the commentary track. It’s understandable, and other patreons are already on this format. It will take time for people to get used to change, and there are simple workarounds for people with just one monitor (such as myself). I feel like paying for another subscription is not a huge dealbreaker (such as with the yard and their dcom commentaries), but even then I was able to watch this last episode completely free on tubi with Brave’s adblock. It’s also a big reason why I’m a patreon subscriber. If anything, I’m surprised the old format went on as long as it did.

ahh well, some entity was bound to come after trash TV at some point. i havent watched the new format yet but i do know the yard has some sort of chrome extension for desktop users when they do their DCOM stuff so their commentary syncs up with the movie in the browser. idk the logistics of it or how hard it is to make that sort of thing but it’s always worked well for me. if that’s not a possibility i’d prefer a different benefit tbh. totally unrelated to anything just a random thought i had for my fellow patreon subscribers without american netflix or whatever other streaming platform: gossip girl is like 15 years old. it’s not hard to 🏴‍☠️

I think it works for movies as a one off, but tv shows might mean people can’t enjoy the watchalongs for months or years at a time if you are committing to several seasons of a show.

Syncing up react content is pretty standard, but I can see how people who are used to having the show baked in would be against the change. I am willing to continue to watch in the new format, it also opens up the possibility of watching more one off movies like you did with 500 days of summer.

trash tv is the reason I subbed tier 2, so I would definitely prefer if you kept it even though the new format is not the best

both options seem kind of a turn-off to me cuz i paid the $15 for trashtv exclusively for its old format. if the replacement wasn't of equal value i'd probably just go back to tier 1. ig i would work with the new format if really there was nothing else

I think you should move on from TrashTv. if you should continue best of luck and have fun it seems like it was heating up with each episode, but I will be going down a tier because its content I can’t access.

Unpopular opinion, I don’t love trashtv. Just not my thing so I’m willing for it to be switched out with something else, but I also have no ideas for what that something could be. I’m useless and sorry 😞

The new format kind of works better for me cuz I can't watch patreon videos on my apple TV. So now I can just tune in on my phone for the commentary, but I can watch the actual show full size on the TV

I'm fine with the new format! Bonus points if you can work with Otto to adapt the yard extension for Netflix and your commentary tracks. But I understand that would be a really big project.

I’m mostly subbed to tier two for the trash tv and im completely fine with the new format, honestly i initially expected to have to sync the videos up anyways when i first subbed, don’t really see an issue with it people who don’t have a subscription to netflix or whatever should just pirate it lmao

I love trashtv. But prefer watch alongs that are not series based, like movies. So I don't have to commit to a series. Like when you guys did the T swift movie or 300 days of summer. those were A+ to me. if you can do that type of thing with audio podcast and a GOOD sync to the content I would be so down for that.

Only started watching GG because of the watch alongs… Although, the new format isn’t terrible, it just sucks cause I am a mobile user. Having to look at my tv and pay attention to my phone to get reacts is a little much. It was a fun run! I actually just finished watching the show and was really looking forward to seeing y’all’s reaction too.

I say switch it out for something different/unique. Like craft club would be fun, essentially doing a collaborative craft session every week. It can be crocheting a pattern that spans a month or sip and paint.

I decided to join Patreon after I heard you guys were watching GG. I really hope they finish out the series at least. I don’t mind having to sync with streaming but it does take an extra step

While the new method is less convenient, and basically impossible to watch if you only have access to mobile, I still enjoy the Gossip Girl react content quite a bit. My vote would be to keep it and continue with the timestamp method. (Even though QT did accidentally spoil who Gossip Girl is on a stream a couple weeks ago haha)
