Wei Ying's mother was a rouge cultivator who did not belong to any clan called Cangse Sanren. His dad was the subordinate (treated as a servant in clan hierarchy) Jiang clan leader. For years there were rumors that Jiang clan leader was in love with Wei Ying's mom and that Wei Ying is actually his illegitimate son, which is not true. But Jiang clan leader's wife is a jealous, bitter woman who believed in those rumors instead of her own husband's integrity. She often compared Jiang Cheng and Wei Ying. Because of his mom, Jiang Cheng is always jealous of Wei Ying for being better than him in all skills and in everything. So, even though he loved his brother, it is always tainted by his jealousy. Wei Wing grew up in Jiang household, but he was never adopted officially. He is like a ward or a foster child. Because he is a son of servant (his father was one), he was always discriminated against. Even though Jiang Cheng considers Wei Ying as his brother, it is a delicate relationship because Jian Cheng is clan heir, and it is expected that Wei Ying will become his servant in the future. Jiang Cheng and Wei Ying's relationship is always affected by the former's jealousy and the latter's status as a servant.
