Regent hairstyles are otherwise called pompadour hairstyles (named after a mistress of King Louis XV of France). Elvis had what would be known in Japan as a regent haircut. The one in the show was a bit extreme. They are believed (no one is 100% sure) to be called regent hairstyles in Japan because the barber who created it wanted an exotic foreign name and so named it after Regent Street in London. As a Brit, the idea of Regent Street being exotic amuses me. Either that or it was copied from and named after King Edward VIII (the one who abdicated to marry the American divorcee) because he acted as a prince regent (basically a stand in / substitute) for his father King George V when he was ill. In short, it was named after something or someone British, so blame us.
