Edit: I have added a new version of the Hybrid 4x4 Alpha 4. The template now has 3 banks of FX, most of them are new and not seen in other templates. All banks and patterns are populated with the 4x4 Template. Please watch the stream above to understand the fundamentals of the template. I am working on it daily, a few FX at a time. There are 14 FX left to design in total. If you watch the lengthy video above, you’ll see me build the Hybrid 4×4 Template from scratch. I floated this idea several months ago: a template that offers 64 performance effects yet still leaves four tracks free so you can run the Octatrack as a groovebox. With it, you can load four song stems and enjoy both solid track-level effects and an additional 64 global effects. In practice, that means you could perform with nothing but the Octatrack—enjoying clear separation between musical elements—or use those four tracks to accompany other gear, taking advantage of the Octatrack’s unrivaled sample-chopping workflow. The setup lends itself to countless creative approaches.

Below is the Hybrid 4×4 Alpha 4 download. Part's 1 and 2 contains a full bank of effects; Part 3 has 12 of 16 FX and Part 4 is a work in progress. Instead of a traditional looper, there’s a resample track for Hyper FX and beat-juggling tricks. While the template naturally shines with drum-and-bass and techno, it’s flexible enough for any genre. What you’ll download is exactly what I built in the video—nothing more, nothing less. Consider the video a deep-dive, advanced Octatrack tutorial that covers a huge range of techniques.
