Generate Performative and Useful Melodic Patterns (Patreon)

I’m not sure if you’re familiar with Turing Machines, but there are a ton of them in Eurorack format. A Turing Machine is a random looping sequencer. It generates a stream of randomly changing voltages (usually stepped), which you can use to control pitch, filters, modulation—anything that takes CV. At its core is a shift register that “locks” or “unlocks” its bits: when the lock (or “length”) knob is open, the sequence keeps changing and feels random; when you close it, the sequence repeats, effectively capturing a loop you can refine and reshape. This means you can dial in anything from evolving melodic lines and basslines to glitchy rhythms and generative textures—all with hands-on control. It’s a classic tool for generative and semi-controlled chaos, where you guide the music instead of programming every step.
What’s cool about the one I use in this video is that it’s explicitly designed for making useful and fully quantized melodies. The quantization uses classic scales and modes which can be easily configured and switched on the fly. Basically, it's a great little sequencer that keeps you in the pocket while still letting you explore live. It’s a ton of fun. Later in the stream, we use the melodies to create a melodic drum and bass track—and it turned out great!
I hope you check it out.
