This NEW template is essentially the same as the Ultimate Octatrack FX Template, with the loopers replaced by tracks designed for sampling and sample playback. Additionally, 8 new FX have been added, and each part now has 2 open slots for sample scenes. Thank you for the support!

Ultimate Octatrack FX Template 2FF x.x Manual by EZBOT

All Banks and Patterns are populated with the DJ Effects Template at a default tempo of 120 BPM and a pattern sale of 64 steps (4 bars).

***Clicks and pops can be caused by unstable BPM from external clocking sources. To avoid this use a stable clocking source such as the Octatrack itself.

***Audio MIDI Channels are disabled by default.

- Effects with an asterisk have FREEZE delays.

- "ALL" refers to effects that affect the entire mix with the same effect on both inputs A/B and C/D.

TO ADD YOUR OWN SAMPLES AND PROCESS THEM THROUGH THE TEMPLATE: Tracks 4 and 8 are FLEX tracks with recording buffers assigned to them. You may use these tracks for sampling or for loading samples into the template. To process the tracks through the template effects, you will need to use the CUE output on the back of the Octatrack. Make sure 'CUE mutes track' is enabled; you will find this in the 'PERSONALIZE' settings on the Octatrack. After that, you must CUE tracks 4 + 8. This will direct audio from those tracks out the CUE output, where you can send it back into the Octatrack by any means you choose. I reccomend running the CUE out to the correct audio bus, i.e., Drum samples ---> input A/B, Melody samples input C/D.

TO SAVE A RECORDING TO FILE: Press FUNC + REC 3 and choose "Save This Recording". This is useful for creating stems to save and use in other projects or to transfer to your computer.

COMPRESSORS: Separate compressors are available on both stereo input sets A/B and C/D. By default, they apply mild tasteful compression to your whole mix. To set custom compressor values for each pattern, lock the compressor effect parameters on the first step of Track 1 and Track 5 within each pattern.

SIDECHAIN PUMPING: Sidechain pumping is available on all patterns and all parts. By default the pattern is 4 on the floor. To use the sidechain pumping effect turn up LFO 1 depth on Track 5. To adjust where the ducking occurs copy and paste the BRIGHT GREEN TRIGS on Track 5.

STUTTER FX: FREEZE DELAYS are available seperately on Tracks 1 and 5. To use the the FREEZE DELAY hold FUNC + DOWN ARROW and select DELAY CONTROL. GREEN button 9 controls the FREEZE DELAY for inputs A/B and GREEN button 13 controls the freeze delay for inputs C/D. FREEZE DELAYS occur before effects are applied so you can hold a frozen buffer and then apply effects.

FX BLOCKS: Space, Build, Crush, Party

64 Scenes across 4 Parts. To move to a different set of 16 scenes/fx press PART and use the arrow keys to select a new SET OF 16 EFFECTS.

You will find 2 "USER DEFINED" scenes available across all 4 parts for you to manipulate your samples.

BLAIX

YES! thank you!

Roly Miller

Love this but even more excited for the Shik becoming an integral part of my set up with the upcoming update. God bless Ezbot!!

Wax Bandit

Free the FF!! Great stuff dude - enjoyed your bit on the push 3! I saw Cenk had been working on it for over a year and was hoping there might be more stand alone capability... at all haha. I assumed ableton snatched him for this device specifically so he could pour his OT knowledge into it, one could dream anyway!

ezbot

Yeah I had the same thought and was thoroughly disappointed. I do think I have a workflow for the Push 3 for me though. Sound design and then sample that into my Elektron system.

Superunknown

When playing samples from the FF track 4 and 8 and cueing the tracks I get crunchy distortion. I have to lower the vol on the input IN LR to about 50 to get a clean signal. Is this to be expected? CUE Out goes to Syntakt and Syntakt Main Out goes back in to Input A B of the Octatrack. CUE mutes track is activated. I made sure that Syntakt FX are disabled.

ezbot

That is strange behavior, I'll investigate. Currently I am not having that issue on my end

ezbot

I can not replicate this, I imagine the samples you are feeding through CUE out are just loud, probably normalized sounds. Bringing the volume down is normal imo. Not all sounds will be loud, I would just turn the track volume down or amp volume down on the samples or reduce the gain of the Syntakt input.

SALTMAN

I've had challenges using the OT flex/pickup functionality in a musically intuitive way for my work, so having full FX in this kind of template really opens amazing textures and possibilities for my workflow with external loopers. Thank you so much for the really clear instructions and uses you're awesome!!

Lucas Bassa

Amazing FX, but when using the two Flex Tracks i get no audio. I watched the vid, what am i missing? Ive got a DT setup as well.

Brandon Riggs

I'm sure he answered this somewhere and Im searching these video myself. I think it has something to do with the "CUE MUTES TRACK" portion of his youtube. Still don't know though lol

ezbot

Make sure CUE mutes track is disabled or un-cue the tracks. If this doesnt help, ill investigate

Lucas Bassa

Vol was set to 0 in the AMP page. Any reason for that? But I missed that I have to route the OT back into the DT of course. My bad!

ezbot

0 is default for volume, not sure what you mean?

Lucas Bassa

ah ok, prolly misunderstanding; the volume was at 0 so that's why it wasn't audible. If it's at 0 then how do i get sound? Even via CUE's?

ezbot

AMP Volume? 0 is unity with AMP volume, it goes positive and negative. Do you mean Track Level?

ezbot

Oh, no it should be at 0. That's a bug! Thank you, I will update the template tomorrow and fix that.

evvolita

Hi! Really enjoying your templates and content, thank you! As I am fairly new to the Octa I have a question: When using the flex tracks for samples, can I not have different samples saved for different patterns but same parts? If I assign a sample to bank A1 for T4 and Part 1 the same sample gets assigned for bank A2 on T4 and Part 1. For each Pattern I would like different samples on T4 and T8 but on the same part. Is that possible?

ezbot

Yep! You lock the sample into your pattern. Hold down a step and turn the level encoder

evvolita

Oh yeah p-lock seems to be the way! Thanks!!
