The prodigal video returns better than ever. This is how to record 8/16/32 bar quantized loops on the Octatrack. There are so many reasons to do this, one of the big ones is you can augment the performance Template to record 8 bar loops instead of 4. Let me know how it goes for you!

All the best,

Matthew

Long Sampling Unlocked for the Octatrack

In this video I am going to show you how and why to record 8/16/32 bar quantized loops on the Octatrack, and if your clever lengths in between. Sum tracks to longer loops, record multiple patterns, create whole track bounce-downs, record 4,000+ steps of audio!? Yep. I am really enjoying your content Matthew. Thank you. I note that you often mention the 127 level for recording levels and understand the rationale for that with line level or instrument level input but I am interested in getting eurorack signals into the octa as well. Given that eurorack runs hot compared to other signals, do you have any advice on the appropriate input levels? Would it be safer to use a line level mixer/output module to route any given eurorack audio through before sending it to the octatrack? Apologies if you have covered this elsewhere and I've missed it!

Glad you enjoyed it!

I don't personally recommend that you run your modular signals directly into the OT. It's recommended that you run through an OUTPUT module before you start working with line level audio - HOWEVER, I think you can adjust the gain the MIX menu to compensate for the +18dB that Eurorack typically outputs.

This is awesome! Any way to use this with the performance template and have the input source and the sample effected by the effects? Ie record a long progression from the digitone and then have it effected with the crossfader, while also effecting the incoming signal
