And here we have it! The official 15k reboot illustration, a colorful re-work of this piece here. Adapting this one proved a tricky challenge, since the line art and pose was already pretty close to what I wanted to do. Still, this was an opportunity to add a little more color and think more closely about the surroundings of the pair.

As you may have noticed by now, I enjoy drawing posh spaces every now and then, so that was ultimately the direction I went (the other one I was considering was a locker room bench).

Here's the original rough sketch. The important part here was to capture the general poses and think about what I wanted to change.

In the original, the guy was pretty petite compared to the woman, so I sized him up here and blocked out some areas for furniture in the foreground. I also knew that I wanted to change the chair he was sitting in.

The background color used for flatting colors is crucial for setting the mood. I wanted the illustration to feel rich and opulent, but also light and airy, so I went with a pale blue-gray.

Here you can see things taking final form. I have a shading layer set to multiply, a "blush" layer I use to add reds and other warm hues, and a "topcoat" layer for blending out the shading and adding more depth.

Add a black gradient background and a dark purple layer on top (set to "Lighten"), and you get the final illustration!

Image Set available for download until the next set gets uploaded.

Enjoy!
