Today's lesson is a big one! 30 minutes of chord based licks and double stop fills in that Motown, Soul and Blues style synonymous with Stax, Muscle Shoals, Steve Cropper, Curtis Mayfield, Cornell Dupree and Jimi Hendrix. We even chuck in a couple of Bill Frisell tricks along the way to jazz things up a touch.

The powerful classic "A Change is Gonna Come" by Sam Cooke lends us it's chord progression for us to use as our training ground for applying all of these rhythm fills.

Great lesson Alex and I really like when you quote all the different versions you took inspiration from and we should listen too

So beautiful ❤️❤️

Love it and I will try and get some vibe on an acoustic which I think I’ll use my Eastman AR805 (not ideal) I know it won’t get all the way there sonically, but maybe with some adaptations it might work. Great lesson as usual and thank you for all the hard work you put into it. This community is taking off.

So much information fantastic lesson, presented brilliantly

Thanks Mark, really glad you liked it! I’m sure it’ll work great on that guitar.. just adapt whatever you feel necessary as you say 👍🏻 Man, I’m so proud of this community .. so many lovely, like minded and talented individuals with a genuine passion for pushing their guitar playing forward. I love it!

Hi Wayne, not sure I’m understanding the question.. every single one of my lessons comes with guitar pro files included.. always has and always will.. not only that but I synchronise the real audio file with the score too. I provide .gp and .gpx options (gpx for legacy versions). Sorry if I misunderstood your question?

Oh man! About to give this one a go. What a pleasant sound...

Since I know you work pretty hard at these videos I just wanted to say that I really appreciate the structure of the lesson. Starting with a broad outline of the song (general chords, rhythm, etc) then adding in the details. This allows me to work on bite size chunks rather than feeling like I have to work through the entire video before proceeding. Oftentimes I only have 15 minutes to practice....In other words, I can take something away after only few minutes and get playing quicker. Keep it up!

Comments on Frisell are keeping me motivated while working on bars 1 through 23.

What a great lesson - I've been playing this song for years in various bands, but you've really opened my eyes to a lot more possibilities in it.

Alex Farran Guitar

Thanks Patrick, I’m so glad you found this lesson useful! 🙏🏻

Great video Encyclopaedia of licks Bars 7&8 at the end of section D are just awesome and that bit alone makes it all worthwhile
