Alex, THANK YOU for "extending your hand" to beginners like me. It is worth to learn well the basics, before to build up over it, and I felt that this is your clear intention here. Many thanks!!!

Alex Farran Guitar

That's very true my friend, it's all about getting each foundational step down 100% before progressing and building the walls of the house.

Chris Bristow

Thanks again, still working on the Peter Green lesson from a few weeks ago (and Russian Lullaby…I’m slow..) so this will have to wait but just nice to hear and think about music. Beautiful guitar! Thanks for the Beatles nod…I was one year old in 64 lol but my parents had it on the record player I’m sure..

Ron Rollins

Great lesson, headed towards a guitar to dig into this right now. Thanks Alex!

zIg

I love these foundational lessons (really enjoyed that country blues lesson where you took it from dirt simple to building in complexity, with all the reasoning behind it). Can’t wait to check this one out.

Del

Unlike you Alex my 78 year old hands were playing the early Beatles stuff in 1964, I was definitely around then. Love this lesson I need to play mellower stuff these days. Regards Del

MarkF

Great lesson thanks looking forward to building on this material with future learning. Light bulb moment was Major to minor thinking harmonic minor bam!💥 (looper alert)

Alex Farran Guitar

That’s awesome Del! I’m glad you got to experience it first time round! 🤩

Alex Farran Guitar

Amazing Mark, really glad you found some interesting stuff in this one!

Drew Todd

Excellent lesson. Thanks. You’re style and approach make all of this super accessible. Need to know about that hat, though. Details! 😁🎩

Marinho Del Santo

Today I had the chance to "study" this one from A to Z, and I got almost all of it. Now it's time to "put in the fingers" and, more importantly, absorb it in the mind...It will take a couple of days. Alex, please, next lesson, refresh the basics before "diving in". That is solid evolution!

John Olenski

Alex, I am excited to have this opportunity to learn jazz guitar. Your style of teaching makes it possible to follow and build on. Thank you so very much.

Roy M

I think the hat is a Stetson Stratoliner - essential headwear for blues players :-)

Alex Farran Guitar

I do have 3 Stratoliners, but this one is a Stetson Whippet.. a very similar hat but with a chunkier band and a slightly softer, less structured shape.

Drew Todd

A fine looking chapeau

Benny A

The tone you are getting from the '64 Gibson straight into the '64 Princeton is amazing.

Benny A

Great timing on this lesson too, as I just bought my first archtop and am getting into jazz. Awesome lesson once again.

Alex Farran Guitar

Thank you Benny, really glad you enjoyed the lesson and the tone! Which arch top did you get?

Benny A

I got the Ibanez Artcore AMH90 in ivory. I didn't have a huge budget and this one seemed to be a good value guitar. I'm really digging it. Though, now of course I want a new amp. I love the versatility of my Fender Mustang GTX, but so far I cannot get a jazz sound from it that I am really happy with.

Manuel

Awesome lesson, Alex. Can't wait for Part 2! :)

Zohar

Such a great, well structured lesson! Loved it! Where would you recommend going from here? been working on the inversion survival guid and the folow up autumn leaves application lesson - both so rich if you put the work in!

Stuart

I've just discovered this lesson. Superb.... unsurprisingly 😃. So well explained. Alex what strings do you use, and what make and gauge of fingers?

Shields

Great lesson. Do you have a chart for the arrangement you played at the opening of the video?
