For a while now I’ve been going back and forth with Mr. Dan Strain (aka Danocaster), on ideas for a tele build. I’ve wanted one of his guitars since I first heard about them back in the mid 2000’s on The Gear Page, and finally it’s happening!

The Nacho is the blackguard to end all blackguards so I knew I didn’t want another 100% traditional tele in that vein. We decided to go with something a little different; a PAF style Humbucker in the neck and a more traditional tele bridge pickup.

Aesthetically I chose to go with the 60’s Bloomfield vibe, as I can’t think of a better visual telecaster pairing than a butterscotch blackguard and a blondie with a dark rosewood board.

The body is 2 piece ultra lightweight ash weighing just 6.8lbs and finished in “nicotine blonde”. The neck is a chunky soft V profile (0.88” thickness at the 1st fret, around 0.96” at the 12th) and has a beautifully dark rosewood fingerboard with a 9.5” radius and 6125 fretwire. I’ve asked for light to medium aging so nothing too extreme.. just enough to give it some character and vintage vibe.

To get the best out of the two different pickup types Dan is putting a stacked pot in, so the PAF gets 500k and the single gets 250k.

The guitar is almost done, so once we figure out shipping from the U.S. to The UK, it’ll be here and ready to get to work!.. I cannot wait!

I’ve attached a few pics below for those of you who enjoy ogling telecasters 🤪

Well deserved.

Great choice, something a little different and yet it’s got that old look. I wish I could send you a picture of mine, I grew up with Danny Gatten in Washington DC so I have a Danny Gatten pick up on the neck, butterscotch body with black Picard it’s a screamer. The two Guitar players from Washington DC both play the telecaster. Roy Buchanan the king And Danny. What a great ax congratulations

Meeno Peluce

You’re one mighty lucky fella, to have such discerning taste. A Dan is really a fantastic height of the craft and to dial it in like this, well, huge kudos.

Tim

I’m lucky enough to own a Danocaster tele. It’s the best tele I’ve ever played by a mile. Light, resonant and beautiful to look at. You’re going to love it.

I've owned a few Danocasters but the Dano Tele i have now is a gem of a guitar (of course it has your pickups in it )...as Tim said "you are going to love it"

Nelson Kerr

Dig it! That might be my next guitar...love the versatility of the PAF and the single coil in the bridge position. Looks 100% cool too. Congratulations - looking forward to hearing it in action. 🎶😎

Corey

Yeah. Cool. Wish I had $6-10k(or more?) lying around for something on this level. Maybe if I sold some of my babies... hmmm...

John Rhodes

Very nice! Can't wait to hear in action.

Chris Bristow

I have a feeling you will do it justice no problem at all. Excited to hear it it’s a beauty.

Jason B

Looks somehow familiar … you should’ve gone for a maple cap! 😉

Brendan Tindall

I’m not embarrassed to say I just got half a woody I shouldn’t even mention because it’s not worthy, my baja Tele has a white pick guard and I think they call it dessert sand body, yours looks nearly as good Alex 🙄

Alex Farran Guitar

Haha, it's a looker ain't it!? Oh man, those Baja teles are amazing.. so many of my students own them due to my recommendation. Always the top spot for an affordable tele in my opinion.

Alex Farran Guitar

Haha cheers mate, yeah your vintage 60's tele (66?) is rather special and was definitely an inspiration for this! ;)

Alex Farran Guitar

The price of guitars is definitely getting up there isn't it?.. but I guess that applies to everything! Would be a hard choice for me.. baby vs telecaster 🤣

Alex Farran Guitar

Cheers Nelson, my thinking is that this should be able as versatile as a guitar can possibly be. I was tempted to chuck a Bigbsy on it too but decided against it in the end.

Alex Farran Guitar

Ah yes, yours is a beaut! And those Sunbears definitely suit it! 👌🏻

Alex Farran Guitar

Oh man, that sounds amazing! Two of the greatest tele players to walk the earth right there!

Benoit Touche

This is beauty Alex... Do you believe we could see some lessons in the funcky / motown vibes with this one?

Marius Eriksen

That looks dope! Did you get a PM from me on here, Alex?

MarkF

Beautiful addition to the family I could hear some Lenny Breau channeling through it! Congratulations!!

Outstanding - can't wait to hear it.

Step 1 of Telecaster Anonymous: We admitted that we were powerless over Telecasters.... Maybe we will meet at a meeting someday day: Hi, My Name is Jerome O, what's your name?

Peter Tiffany

Very, very nice. Love the Telecaster anonymous statement. Very funny! I have been thinking about one of the Gibson Custom 60s ES-335s. Probably not the right time to pull the trigger on one though.

Ristobop

However, I do have an excellent 1973 Es 335 in my collection (Greco from Japan, high level of quality!)... Also an extremely sexy Jazzmaster, but my '67 Telecaster remains my favorite because it's more organic, rustic, and physically engaging. It feels handmade (both the instrument itself and what you get out of it!)... I can't wait to hear what Alex will get out of his new mistress! 🥸

Jerome Oks

I am shopping for Greco or a Tokai Lespaul. Anything you can share about the good years, the good dealers, quality or whatever else comes to mind would be welcome.
