Anything going on with you in late November? Any gigs?

David

Might Ai help you with the mechanical repetitive stuff.?

Dear Alex, Many thanks for sharing your quotidien in your beautiful country side, I now know where a part of your inspiration comes, nature is so wonderfull. I can imagine the HUGE amount of work that it represents to tab all your lessons in guitar pro, I do that as well with Ritchie Blackmore's accoustic work since quiet a while now, and I know it takes hours ...

Sean

Here's a question: in your video for your method of practicing soloing, you use a chord progression that includes Am6. You use the same progression (more or less) for your enclosures video and state that the parent scale is A Harmonic Minor. Harmonic Minor has a flat 6 though. So how do we sus out getting Am6 from that scale then? The best answer I could find basically just said that thr Minor Scale is flexible like that with no further elucidation. I was hoping maybe you had some insight into this cause I've fallen in love with both the scale and the Gypsy Jazz/Blues flavor it has and wanted to play around with it more. Cheers!

Couldn't you save some time by using a Midi interface to have your tabs written automatically in GP, at least the basic ? Nevertheless, your lessons are the best that any guitar player can expect in this word, and I can see that you are always on the search of new ideas, ways to play to keep your playing fresh and evolutive. MANY MANY THANKS for the many many hours of passion your offers us for the price of a donnut and a coffee. They are certainly worth much more in my opinion, at least the price of a T-Bone (walker !), and the bone for the lovely Rosie -:) Cheers, Nico

Thought about lessons that have an assignment? Such as have us transcribe specific recorded solo (maybe just one chorus) and followup lesson that has your transcription and then we can see how we did. RE: Charlie Christian, for sure he is amazing, I hear horn players in his playing and I get similar inspiration of 'what just happened there?' when I listen to horn players

John McDermott

some interesting discussion points in this Alex. Thank you for your time once again

maxwax

First time post as I enjoy the lessons in lurking mode. But your candor and openess in sharing your life (especially your feline and canine companions) is so beautiful and theraputic for me, well, I just need to express my appreciation to you Alex. You're good people you are. And quite the best guitar instructor I've come across.

Guy Roberts

Alex, How about that OXBOX video?

Gert De Groof

Hey Alex, that was a lovely walk along! Though I seem to hear in your breathing that you need to work out more often, 50 approaches faster than you think 🤪. Jokes aside, I have collected a few questions along my path with your lessons so I’ll just drop em in here. Feel free to answer any or none of them. Here you go: - can one become as good as yourself just with lessons or should we all be transcribing ourselves? - How important is playing in front of an audience for a players progress? - I always was a believer in the fact that a great player can make a cheap guitar sound expensive. So at what point should one be investing in a more expensive instrument? Non professionals. - Can you easily change instrument (different guitars) and still feel comfortable? Or how long does it take to get comfortable? Does it make you more versatile? - How big is your repertoire? How big should one’s repertoire be? I also have some practical questions about taking some one on one lessons with you, but I think I should send you those in a direct message. Take care my friend, great to see you’re doing well and going strong.

Zach Enlow

Jealous of one of the prettiest countrysides in the entire world.

Gert De Groof

Ow…and where can I find that solo album of yours?

Tom

Nothing like being with your pup in nature! Thank you so much for your lessons Alex. Wes, CC, Kenny Burrell. I am in heaven! As a retired educator I am so appreciative of what you are doing and how accessible your Standards are and how adeptly you present them.

John Bent

You’d never know you weren’t formally qualified in music Alex as you have it all as a player and an all round musician. Gifted beyond words and a really inspiring teacher!! Keep up the great work man 💪

neil etherington

Hello Alex, really enjoyed your video and fully appreciate the time and effort you take to produce your content, thanks once again.

David Lockwood

I just think of you Alex as a guitar /music genius. That says it all!! I realise how hard you work. Thanks for everything. You deserve it ! 💯

Michael Hurley

windy and warm is a finger style forecast

Joseph Corso

Thank you for this Alex really enjoyed it…

Sean

I was thinking the same thing.

Ron Culbertson

Hey Alex, Ron here again. Interesting coincidence I left the music business at 29 and became a stonemason brickmason. I’ve had my license here in Lake Arrowhead for 44 years.. Masonry has been very good to me, but I never gave up my love for music. I hope you can hear that in the songs that I send you. What a great life you have with all that open area around you. I must admit, I imagined you living in London, a very crowded city. My only friend there is Adrian Lee. He too is a very good guitar player. Thanks for the video enjoyed seeing the real you, not that there is an unreal you. Namaste.

Ron Culbertson

Thanks, Frank. We do have something in common, Alex. We can never tell how two people will meet. Namaste.

Bill Braaten

As a older player who’s used his hands his whole life there a bit beat up would love a lesson on easier blues chords on the hand just got to say ya inspired me to get a Epiphone 355 that I love your playing is very inspirational Ty for what you do quality is fantastic Ty again

martyn spooner

Thanks Alex, I guess that is another thing we share ie walking our dogs, , being a few decades older than yourself I feel blessed I am still able.. I. feel privileged to be a member of your site and cannot thank you enough for all you have taught me as learning anything new is the ultimate buzz for me..Always look forward to your next post cheers again

Bill Braaten

But have to admit you have pushed me beyond my comfort zone Ty

Bill Braaten

Tone your tone is amazing Ty

Carlos Funk

Wow, praise Infinite Intelligence for the internet, so stuff like this can happen. You are laying the most beautiful bricks in the most beautiful constructions now. Yeah, all this that you speak about, comes through in spades in every lesson. I think all that stuff just makes it hit harder. It's 100% authentic. What can be better. I have said it in many ways before, trying to convey my appreciation. Thanks, Alex.....your getting results out here that you don't necesarily see.....but they're there.

Miles Morris

I'd love to find out what you recording process looks like. What your go-to plugins are that contribute to that great tone you have perhaps? Having been through some of your older videos I'm really interested in your journey with gear too. I've seen so many different pedals, amps and guitars that you must have a tale or story to tell.

Thomas Hilton

Really appreciate the quality and detail you put into these lessons Alex. You also have the ability to present the theory and techniques with a certain degree of charisma that comes across naturally and professionally. There’s so much material on this page that I’m working on I couldn’t list it all. I’m currently working on blues, jazz blues, R&B, ii-V-l, arpeggios and triads. When I started playing there was nothing like this available. Thank you for sharing your music.

Alex Farran Guitar

Amazing questions, thank you Gert, I always know you’ll come up with the good stuff! 👌🏻 The repertoire question is a particularly good one that I’d like to make a full video about soon. Haha if I spent any more time at the gym than I already do, I’d be living there in a tent! 😅 This is a pretty steep and continuous uphill walk back home, add talking to the mix and it’s a surprisingly decent bit of cardio! 🤪 Cheers matey, and keep up the hard work in the practice room! 👏🏻

Gary Paice

Hi Alex, I tried Songsterr AI on a few things for transcribing. Nothing is ever perfect but it does cut down the amount of time to get to a useable score.

Mike Schaefer

Lovely walk. Did I see Andy Stone and Lance Stater in the background at one point?

Alex Farran Guitar

😂 I did wonder what those two blokes with metal detectors were up to!

Alex Farran Guitar

I’m so glad you liked the casual little walk along Joseph 🙏🏻

Zach Enlow

its on my list, bro! after my learning about the rebel city and the best teacher -- need you back! enjoy the chill.

Alex Farran Guitar

Good question Miles, I'll certainly try to do a video on tone and mixing soon!.. could be a long one though! 🤪

Alex Farran Guitar

Thank you Carlos, your kind words always mean a lot to me! I'm glad it all comes across authentically. Those who know me personally will contest to the fact that there is not "switching off" from the way I am.. this is me, all the time! 🤪

Alex Farran Guitar

Thank you Martyn, I really appreciate that! I'm so glad to have you here in our community. Although I know very little about most of you on a personal level, I feel like we have a good connection. Seeing your name pop up in comments, along with other familiar names who are long term subscribers, is such a warm comfort to me. Thank you for the support 🙏🏻

Alex Farran Guitar

Thanks Bill! That's a great idea.. I'll do a lesson on smaller chord shapes that work brilliantly in the blues.

Alex Farran Guitar

Thank you Ron.. that is interesting indeed! And yes, I can absolutely hear that in your songs. You have a gift for it my friend, no doubt about it! Ah yes, London.. it's really not my vibe at all, but I do enjoy going down there to see friends once a year. Always happy to get back to my tranquil little bubble here in the countryside though! 😅

Alex Farran Guitar

Thank you Neil, I appreciate you too and your support of my work. It means a lot! 🙏🏻

Alex Farran Guitar

Thank you so much my friend, that really touched me. I appreciate you and your support of what I do. 🙏🏻🧡

Alex Farran Guitar

That's a cool idea Ron, I like it. I'll have a think about a practical way to make it happen.

Alex Farran Guitar

Thanks for the comment buddy, I really appreciate the kind words. Rosie appreciates it too 🐶 I did look into the whole midi thing some time ago, and nothing would do what I required.. may be worth another gander.

Alex Farran Guitar

Hi Sean, I've just filmed a video response to this question. I'll release it very soon :)

Alex Farran Guitar

Thanks mate, I appreciate that. Interesting re; Ritchie Blackmore.. always a player I admired, especially his tone.. one of the best of all the classic rock tones in that era I reckon.

Alex Farran Guitar

Late November, I have the usual local gigs but nothing further afield planned. I do have some exciting projects I'm working on though ;)

James McNair

Good to hear a bit more about your background, Alex. As others here and on YouTube have said, you're an excellent teacher. It's abundantly clear that you have found your vocation. You probably know this record? A lesson on opening track Ms. Julie would be great! Loving your lessons on the Jimmy Bryant stuff, but not playing them up to tempo yet
