No where near this yet so I’m working through the tritone subs vid 👌 Love this Tele, what’s the story? 🎸

Alex Farran Guitar

No worries man, just take the lessons at your own pace.. it’ll be here waiting for you when you’re ready 👌🏻 The tele is a heavily modified AVRI 52 reissue from the 90’s.. it’s the same one that used to be green (you can see it in my old videos from 10 years back!). Neck pickup is a Lollar Charlie Christian, I’ve also added a vintage bigsby to it and swapped the neck for a chunkier one! 😂

I am visiting my daughter in LA and needed a guitar to play these new arrangements (Nuages, Georgia on my Mind and Gee Baby) so I went to the Guitar Center and bought a cheap used Cort AD810 acoustic for $120 and I am having a great time playing them-arrangements are great and sound just fine on the acoustic-thanks for the work Alex and looking forward to more of these classic songs.

Alex Farran Guitar

Oh man, that’s too cool! I love that you went to the effort of buying a cheap guitar to practice on! That level of dedication will get you fat indeed! Really pleased to hear that you’re enjoying the lessons mate 🍻🧡

Love the cool vibe. Appears Kenny B borrowed liberally from Arthur Hamilton's "Cry Me A River". I appreciate that you put it into a chord solo. You can never have enough of those! Cheers!

Alex Farran Guitar

Thank you Michael, I appreciate the comment. Ah yes, Cry Me a River.. what a classic that is. Definitely one I’ll be covering soon 👌🏻

I thought for the longest time, until today, that it was a Duke Ellington tune. Do you think the composer is relying on a (no so common) common progression or just harmonizing the melody in a way that sounds Bluesy? I won't be offended if you skip my question;). I always think of Kenny Burrell as the Eric Clapton of Jazz. Beautiful phrasing.

Alex Farran Guitar

Hmmm, it's hard to say really. This dominant cycle of fourths is a common chord movement in both blues and jazz, and I guess this tune treads that fine line between styles very neatly. I get what you mean about Kenny being the Clapton of jazz.. definitely an accessible player to study

There are few Jazz guitar players that I truly like (exceptions: Billy Bauer who was part of the Lennie Tristano gang and Sonny Sharrock). I much prefer Piano players and I was wondering if you ever adapted piano parts to the guitar (Bill Evans, Monk, Duke Ellington being some of my favs).
