An instrumental album full of rockabilly/jazz/western swing wonder! Such a fun record, and some seriously great guitar moments and tone to enjoy from the great Brian Setzer!

Standout tracks for me would be "Blue Moon of Kentucky" (linked above)

"Be-Bop-A-Lula"; https://youtu.be/UzINtDMBV8Q?si=vT5FtU9gGZ8djfQ-

"Far Noir East"; https://youtu.be/l3jydCWDycU?si=6-JC3gzJJFQyWBLX

"Cherokee"; https://youtu.be/KVNzEnaqcmI?si=GQ5JaVm3---YJdtb

"Hillbilly Jazz Meltdown"; https://youtu.be/iiCdf4vtdBM?si=5wKg79hVcTMNMzUS

Makes me miss the two Gretsch guitars I've owned and sold 🤦🏻‍♂️🤪

Any rockabilly fans out there? Make yourselves known! 🍻

Ah I remember getting the Brian Setzer 'Hot Licks' VHS tape from a well-meaning relative in my first year of playing guitar, and it made me hide under the Christmas tree and cry. He's just too damn good.

Alex Farran Guitar

Haha me too!.. I remember that VHS so well! Pretty intimidating if you're just starting out for sure! Hope seeing this didn't trigger some form of PTSD 🤪

How can you not like the man he’s a giant!! Somehow I think of Joe Strummer at the time and all those fabulous Mescalero albums but maybe it is just the attitude they have “all in”-I’ll give this album a listen for sure thanks for the recommendation

Alex Farran Guitar

Absolutely, I’m with you on that! Yeah man, big Joe Strummer fan too! Like you say, it’s the energy 👌🏻🔥

Roi Driscoll

Oh not at all — I got over it and even started to tackle some of the tunes. I love his approach to picking and his general time-feel is so swinging!

Joop Vanzeir

Aah this is a lovely album ineed! I like blue moon, go go Godzilla and Cherokee a lot. His version of Malaguena is also very nice!

Julian Gross

OMG i had no idea this album existed! He's such a virtuoso. It's so crazy that the greatest guitarist the genre produced emerged as a teenager in Long Island in the early 1980s...

Julian Gross

His versions of Sleepwalk -- even just the original Stray Cats album version -- really opened me up to the musical complexity that guitar could produce in this genre

Ryan Griffiths

I am a proud Gretsch 6120 owner, a huge Rockabilly man and Setzer is a King - I was hoping you might lean into some Setzerisms in one of your lessons..

Alex Farran Guitar

I'm with you man, he's one of the guys (along with Danny Gatton, who got me into hybrid picking back in the day!)

Alex Farran Guitar

Yeah, love his live version of Sleepwalk with the big brass section behind him 👌🏻

Alex Farran Guitar

Oh for sure Ryan.. definitely some Setzer on the way soon!.. possibly even Blue Moon of Kentucky ;)

Alex Farran Guitar

P.S; I had a 6120 for a time.. I do miss that guitar. Will own another Gretsch someday! (Had a 6122 for a bit too!)

George Nichols

Had the please of meeting Him at our club in Ca.Took a bunch of pic only to find that there wasnt any film in the camera.Bummer.

Alex Farran Guitar

Ouch! Man that's rough.. but hey at least you got to meet him! That's worth a thousand pictures!

George Nichols

He was there to see a girl from Australia that was performing at our club.Roots music, rockabily,

Alex Farran Guitar

That’s cool! Nice that he gets out to see live shows too 👍🏻

George Nichols

The video is unavailable, I dig rockabilly, old school psychobilly, and the music you share.

Alex Farran Guitar

Still seems to work, could you perhaps try reloading the page and see if that fixes it? If not, it might be that it’s blocked in your part of the world. 🤷🏻‍♂️
