The first Campilongo album I ever heard and it blew me away. One of my favourite modern players and a true master of the telecaster. Fusing so many styles that I love, his playing speaks directly to my soul in so many ways.

Rob Burger absolutely shines on organ duties too.. just phenomenal.

I couldn't find any individual tracks on YouTube to link to, so I've linked to the full album on Apple Music.. (I'm sure it's on Spotify also). The whole record is well worth your time, but I guess there's no harm in mentioning a couple of stand out tracks;

"Mopey", "Twister" and "Cat Under a Car" really showcase Jim's tonal and dynamic range beautifully. From a gentle whisper to a guttural scream!

Let me know if you dig it down in the comments ;)

Yet another killer this week Alex, Jim's playing speaks to me in so many ways as well. His behind the nut bending lines are incredible!

A favorite Campilongo album of mine is “Two Guitars” with Luca Benedetti.

Thom Osborne

Loving this, sadly not on Spotify but found a link on YouTube. Always love being introduced to new guitarists.

Oh, I was so excited to see this post. I’m a huge fan of Jim Campilongo. I stumbled upon Dream Dictionary and worked backwards from there. Such an incredible and unique player. I wasn’t aware of the live album and was happy to see it is available on iTunes. Giving it a spin now!

Thanks for shining a light on Jim Campilongo. He is one of my favourite guitarists as well. He draws from such an eclectic mix of styles, he can be challenging on some recordings but also very nostalgic and quirky. One of the best Telemasters out there. I had the privilege of seeing him live with Luca Benedetti last year, it was guitar nirvana. Jim Campilongo and the Honeyfingers and the 10 Gallon Cats are fantastic albums, Orange too!

New to me, but based on a very cursory iTunes preview, he reminds me of Bill Frisell. I preferred the brief snippets of more traditional tunes (Lipton Tea, Panhandle Rag) to those of the more dreamily abstract ones. It's not really my style, but he certainly has great tonal control and knows what he's doing on the fretboard, and is worth exploring further via whatever I find on YouTube. Always happy to expand my awareness of guitar players, even if (especially if?) they are a bit different.

Two minutes in and diggin’ it big time!

I saw Jim Campilongo at the Detroit Institute of Art's "Friday Night Live" music event in 2019. The events are free and held in the hall where Diego Rivera's "Detroit Industry Murals are, from late fall through winter. It seems like a iife time ago since COVID but Friday Night Live is alive and well in the "D" post pandemic era. Jim is a monster on the Tele and his trio put on such an awesome set. Copy this link to my Facebook page to see and enjoy...cheers!: https://www.facebook.com/100000550549831/videos/2802816229746701

Perfect timing. I recently found him via the remastered 'Table for One' - which I've pretty much worn out - and although I've only listened to this twice through, I'm actually preferring it. Will be after some move of his live work after this.

Never heard of him but that album is freaking awesome such a relief to hear it-not too much of anyone of the players trying to go off on their own, but talented pros listening to one another with such nuanced interplay-fantastic and a reminder there are still real players playing real music! Sorry I got a bit carried away-lol.

Alex Farran Guitar

I'm totally with you Mark.. amazing, tasteful musicianship. So glad you enjoyed it buddy 🙏🏻

Alex Farran Guitar

That's great James!.. I love "Table for One" too. I'd recommend checking out "Heaven is Creepy" or "American Hips" next ;)

Alex Farran Guitar

Great stuff Paul, seeing Jim live is a real treat. I shall check your link out for sure mate :)

Alex Farran Guitar

very cool Eric, haven't seen that video since back when it came out.. forgot how good that group was!

Alex Farran Guitar

Shame it's not on Spotify.. see if they have his albums called "Heaven is Creepy" and "American Hips" on Spotify

Jim is great. I've been fortunate enough to have seen him twice at the Detroit Institute of Arts. Once as a trio and once as a four pc with Luca Benedetti. I stumbled across him on you tube about 5 years ago and it changed everything for me. I've learned a lot from him. A Tele and a Princeton and that all he needs. Check out Backburner from the Orange Album. Its the heaviest riff ever. I was able to talk to Jim after the show in Detroit. He was super nice, he was in no rush and took the time to meet his fans.

Ran Bush

Campilongo is a local San Fran legend. Thanks for getting his name out to more people.

John Petitt

Alex, Jim is a fantastic player. He periodically played with a side project called the Little Willies that included Norah Jones and Richard Julian (I highly recommend Richard's songs Slow New York and Love like a Cheap Guitar.

I am a big Fan of Jim Campilongo. I discovered him in the early 2000's. I have most of his Cd's. I saw him play in NYC about 5 years ago. He was on a first name basis with most people in the room.

Joel

Jim Campilongo is amazing. Maybe a Jim Campilongo lesson in the future? 🤞🏻

Oh wow, man that’s a tough one. My favorite album of his is Table for One, that tune Grass is Greener is a favorite. Huckleberry from the album Orange. Pepper from Heaven is Creepy. Sweet Nothings from Last Night, This morning…. So many. Just wondering what are some of your favorites?
