In episode 2 of our exclusive Q&A interviews, Mike “nine2”, the producer of Sanctuary: Shattered Sun, once again returns to answer your burning questions.

Topics covered:

  • Networking & Performance: Sanctuary avoids traditional lockstep networking, reducing lag issues and ensuring smoother gameplay by leveraging the best-performing computer in a match.

  • LAN & Peer-to-Peer Support: Direct IP connections will be available, ensuring connectivity for players with restricted access to Steam servers.

  • Lore Development: The Dyson Sphere setting was a major turning point in Sanctuary’s world-building, allowing for diverse biomes and a unique strategic environment.

  • AI & Automation: Future plans may include AI assistants that help manage tasks in large-scale battles, reducing micro-management.

  • Experimental & Nuke Variety: All factions will have access to nukes and shatter-based superweapons, with unique experimental units to differentiate their playstyles.

  • Ice & Terrain Mechanics: Future exploration could include Icebreaker ships and destructible ice formations, but maintaining large-scale strategic clarity remains a design priority.

  • AI Skirmish Opponents & Modding: While AI opponents are not guaranteed at launch, development is progressing, and modding will allow deep customization of AI behaviors.

  • Public Alpha & Kickstarter Plans: A free public demo will be released alongside the Kickstarter campaign, giving players a taste of Sanctuary before early access.

  • Future RTS Development: The long-term vision includes multiple RTS titles, expanding on Sanctuary’s technology and gameplay innovations.

Nice to hear you so soon. I'm totally okay with "comic book" cutscenes, the the game itself should be higher focus - and there's lots of games with static image cutscenes =)

I think the main hate from AI generated stuff is when it's used either 1. Lazily by a AAA developer just trying to up their profits (see COD) 2. Or if it's just a complete replacement for anything done by humans It sounds like for your use case , it's completely reasonable. My only advice is to just be sure to CLOSELY look at anything you generate and fix any mistakes the AI might make - i.e. making sure it's not going around giving people 6 fingers on their hand and stuff like that

sounds good!
