Hey folks. One of the awesome members of the Patreon (@ Borna Bear) asked the following question: "Can Petrosyan's get up game be exploited by Veira?"
The short answer is YES. Petrosyan has fairly stalwart SUB defense and he is a physical, dynamic scrambler but his skill level on the ground is much lower than many of his opponents. The attached document is a photo-journal of Petrosyan's UFC career highlighting his poor grappling fundamentals. He has been taken down 2 or more times in 80% of his UFC/DWCS bouts (4/5). Caio Borralho easily secured multiple double leg takedowns -> mount -> back take -> solid RNC attempts. Kolev secured double legs, mat returns, and crack down single legs (nearly a back take). Gregory Rodrigues secured multiple double legs, an over-under throw -> back take -> Suloev Stretch -> Side control -> mount -> back take. I think Petrosyan has an exploitable ground game.Takeaways:
1) Vieira can and should be able to secure multiple takedowns and dominant positions in this fight.
2) Vieira will be most live to SUB early in the fight when he is fresh, but Petrosyan has been in danger of being subbed in Rd. 3 vs. Rodrigues, Rd. 1 & 2 vs. Borralho, & Rd. 1 vs. Kolev.
3) Petrosyan is a dangerous, voluminous striker but his constant leg kicks and body kicks allow opponents to catch kicks and secure takedowns or time kicks to barrel him off his feet. AJ Dobson is not a sensational wrestler but he caught many kicks and secured 2 clean TD's.4) Vieira is the highest level black belt Petrosyan has ever fought according to jiu jitsu credentialing. Vieira is a world class operator and averages more than one takedown per round (3.7 TD's per 15 mins) & 1.4 SUB attempts per 15 minutes.
