I do really hate it in anime when even with my extremely limited understanding of Japanese, I can hear strange differences in the translation. Like as you pointed out young Anna calling him onii-chan and the subtitles keep using Johan. I get localizers take a bit of liberty, but I never understand things like that where them using 'brother' instead of his name wouldn't really change any meaning in the scene, but stay way more accurate. It gets even worse sometimes like in this season of Re Zero where the changes in the translations not only aren't accurate to the words, but completely cause you to miss context clues of plot reveals unless you happen to understand the Japanese yourself.

Lol, never mind. Even in this case it really changed meaning in the scene. I forgot he wasn't even named Johan until after that, so her calling him Johan not only kind of messed with his mentality of not having a name, but didn't even make any since to begin with. Would have made way more sense in context if she was just calling him big brother.

I'm kinda sad, the series end soon (for me again)

It's actually kind of difficult to translate things completely literally sometimes, I've done JP-EN translation and it's often a balance of making things sound natural in the target language vs faithful to the original when the languages are structured so differently. The thing is, someone who knows enough Japanese to know when the subs are wrong can understand it without the subtitles and get the missing context, but someone who doesn't know any Japanese would be wondering why she's calling him Brother because that would sound super weird in English. Bro could work but it has a different vibe also. I would probably just omit it completely in this case. Now the subtitles for this show are pretty bad though, and in this case it's inexcusable. It was clearly translated by someone who doesn't know the actual story or is negligent in actually looking at the full context. In this case you absolutely can't put Johan in the subtitles because if they were actually paying attention to the plot, they would know he wasn't named that yet. There was another instance a few episodes ago too where something was ambiguous but obvious in the context of the story and they chose the objectively wrong option, which confused Luke.

Maybe it's just a regional thing around English speaking areas, but I don't think it sounds strange at all for a sister to call her sibling 'big brother'. Especially when the context here seems to be they didn't have names before that.
