A majority of the ants were not s-ranks, and the ones that's were did not match the ability of s-rank hunters, they just had s-rank strength, that all, no intelligence, so they were pretty easy to beat.

Agreed, also how Luke was saying he didn’t want to arise ants here and drew conclusions based on that, but in the Manhwa he did it instantly. And I don’t like how it tried to make the outcome even a little questionable, Jinwoo completely overpowered the ant.

Shadows do not come back stronger than they were before. Quite the opposite actually. They are weaker than their live counterparts. However, they can get much much stronger through leveling up with Jin Woo.

Actually the Elixir of Life's description is "cures all DISEASES", but here it is not a disease, it's plain physical open hurts, that's why the system said the condition of Cha is not covered by the Elixir. Same for the upgrade, the "Fatal Strike" skill evolved to "Mutilation" because Jinwoo used it enough times to make it evolve. Do not think the system really just does whatever it wants at any moment (unlike what is seen in the fanmade sister leveling), it just follows some rules and logic.

The ''Upgrade'' he got mid-fight was a Level-Up of a Skill he already had, ''Fatal Strike''. He had been using it a lot, and mid-fight it maxed out to it's Final Version, ''Mutilate''. The Anime didn't show it the same as in the Manhwa, but it was more Epic for sure!

Well, technically a burn mark is not a hurt made by an external agent, it's a body response to overheat, so the mom still having the mark after the actual overheat effect is long gone is just an internal traumatic persistent behaviour coming from the body to fight a no longer existing threat, more similar to an auto-immune ill or an allergy than to a bleeding hole

He didn't bother with most of the other hunters because he didn't want their weak-ass ability. yeah the show is really good. Like the work, effort, and passion they put into it is on point and even above expectations.... i just wish they didnt cut content to begin with. Theyre speedrunning this manhwa like how fast sung levels up... Similar to Horimiya season 1. It was basically just a promotional for their manga. Now they made a season 2, which they were able to pace, but still wished it was just a continuous thing and not just skipped content to begin with....

to correct you on one thing, when they come back as shadows, they become weaker than their original form, not stronger. BUT, his shadows gain the ability to level up, making them potentiallly stronger down the road.

This was a great episode. Loved the action. If I remember correctly, Jinwoo had an easier time fighting in the Manhwa than in the Anime, but I'm ok with that change. Makes for an exciting fight. What I don't understand is, why change the reason for the cut video feed? Correct me if I'm wrong, but in the Manhwa the feed was cut to keep the public from seeing the S rankers getting killed and it was reestablished when they saw Jinwoo show up. Why change it to a convenient loss of signal to a convenient regain of signal. That seems moronic to me. But still a great episode

So the elixr of life was never going to work to heal Cha, the effect specifically stating it will "cure any ailment". Ailment being the key here, it can cure any sickness, disease or otherwise, but it does not heal, it showing the burn on his mother healing is a bit deceptive, but could be taken as the scar from it healing, not the injury itself.

This episode was so good. I could not see any imperfect or missing frames in the animations not like in a BARAN fight. Just perfect! I predict he will ressurect a healer on camera for whole world to see in the last episode to save her. System even kinda forcing him too. CANT WAIT TO SEE! (Writing this at the start of this video). EDIT: My top 5 would be: Slime/Rimuru, Naruto, SAO, Solo leveling and last Kage/Shadow Garden (Not sure in what order and I'm not even sure if I would be able to choose what is better then other). I love anime like Re-zero or Tsukimichi or Bleach or Tokyo Ghoul or Jujutsu Kaisen or Boku no hero or Mushoku or Kaijuu no 8 ... I even think they are on the same level or maeby even better but for me and my taste those 5 are top 5 for me.

The max level skill he got, mutilation, was another skill he already had called fatal strike that he’s been leveling up for a while. Once it hit max level it upgraded a step further to mutilation. Hard to tell from the animation, but it’s possible he had been using the skill in the fight enough that it just happened to level up then, or it could have been the system. Not sure which, but either way the plot armor came in to save him.

Additionally, he is hesitant to showcase his abilities because dealing with death is considered a very serious matter in Korean culture. Season 2 > Season 1 This is how I felt initially when I did read the manhwa. Season 1 was disappointing in terms that it did not match the EPICNESS of the gorgeous panels and I thought we will get a good 9/10 anime only. BUT SEASON 2 SHEEESH, 100% matched everything from the manga and even beyond. S2 = 10/10. Flawless adaptation. Idk how anime only viewers feel but as manhwa reader I am proud of result.

Nah Baran (the demon monarch) was visibly stronger than Beru (the ant). Baran just couldn't body any S ranks because the only one he faced was Jin-Woo. Which warped perception because Jin-Woo is that strong currently.

Luke actually said it so I am just paraphrasing: The system is helping jinwoo when he needs. Now in other stories this is called plot armor but Solo leveling actually has a reasoning for why plot armor exists and it's always so convenient. The reason will be revealed in S3. IT IS A SATISFYING ANSWER, one that make enough sense that when you look back at it , it will make sense.

If I'm remembering correctly, Il-whan's time as a hunter predates when they started measuring and classifying hunter ranks. Take out him and Hwang and get 9 Active or Deceased S-Rank Korean hunters.

this whole thing is in itself dumb because I don't want to spoil but the potion did something to the mom to fix her, those who read manhwa know what. The addition of what she got is what cured her. So the weird part is that potion did rewind time for her scar until skin got back to what it used to be. Sure we can argue from a game perspective but I am asking what the potion does in itself. What is considered damage and what not. I expect that can also cure blindness which is reverting eye to original form from where it could see again. (blindness is a status as well). So.... if potion rewind time to things that are considered status effects then by that logic it should revert other cells as well back because curing status effects is modifying DNA. My only conclusion is that it require mana and she barely has any left, so that's why u need a healer as the mana from heal would be used as energy source.

Yeah, they spent at least as much time showing the signal not working as they could have to discuss the fact they intentionally cut the signal when the Ant King started thrashing the Korean hunters. The too-perfect timing of it coming back online is def annoying.

Wrap up and wind-down. There's a scene coming where I expect we'll linger more than the source material did (much like with Jinwoo's mother waking up). We'll probably get some of the stuff that's been cut to streamline the epicness (like what Jinho's been doing), and I would bet I know *exactly* what teaser they're going to leave off the last episode with.

It is not meant as a disrespect or to diminish the moment to say it was truly cooler in the manwha. There was a moment where "the ant" compare his leadership to Jin-woo, only to be utterly disrespected. The relief when the guy noticed the soldiers. The threat to tusk, upon the failure to protect the s ranks. This episode was awesome, the manwha was fkn stupid good.

The Shadow's don't come back stronger. I think they come back nerfed initially. I think he implied that about Igris and actively stated about Kar(magic dude whose name I forget) However, once he gets them, they're able to level up; so may eventually get stronger than originally!

Jinwoo's father awakened and disappeared before the ranking system was developed. I'd have to dig through the novels again, but I remember getting the distinct impression he was probably a high A-rank before he disappeared. I don't think it's ever confirmed solidly in novels or manwha. If he'd been a *known* S-rank who disappeared, people would have made the connection between him and Jinwoo, I think. He is *definitely* an S-rank now, but he was never measured as one prior to his disappearance (even though the wiki lists him as one of the 10 Korean S-ranks, and moves Hwang out of the list of Korean hunters since he defected, Hwang was the 8th S-rank to awaken in Korea, the first to awaken after the third Jeju Island raid. Considering they lost Eunseok in that raid, Hwang's defection after awakening was an especially bitter pill to swallow.

He said specifically "in enjoyment". Not actual rating. I don't think those are the same thing. There are masterpieces and mid peak animes which can mix in enjoyment. This is literally like demon hunter, enjoyment is at the 10/10 because of animation and peak action, but there are things which make it not be a masterpiece.

I had to go back and reread the JeJu island arch again. I don't want to take away from the episode, because I did enjoy it, but there definitely was changes made to the story that make little sense to me. I'd forgotten some of the minor details but after going back, it just left me scratching my head. It is what it is I guess.

This is the problem of this anime being made by a Japanese team, they made look like Jinwoo was almost on the same level as Goto, while if you read the manhwa, when Goto and Jinwoo fight you can actually see that Goto got scared and felt despair from Jinwoo’s power

-So much was changed in the anime... you will see how much was cut and changed in the AniNews vid shortly and I can see why they changed things, but I wish they hadn't changed it. -The System did not take out the signal--for context--in the original novel the Broadcast company stopped the feed from going out to the public (it was on a delay, in case anything happened) and when they started getting wrecked by the Black Ant, they cut the feed to the general public. They didn't want to cause a panic letting the Korean people watch their S ranks being torn to pieces on live TV. So here we just see the signal die, but that wasn't how it happened in the book. I'm sure AniNews will cover it in more detail. -Jinwoo broke the TV before heading over so no, his Mom won't see it. -The Japanese Hunter that was freaking out was the one Goto told to run. The one in the ice died, it was implied when we saw the ice break and he looked like he shattered with the ice, but yeah that guy is: D E D. 7 out of the 10 Japanese S Ranks have been KIA'd; literally the 3 you saw on the screen are the only ones left. -Yes, that was the ability of one of the Japanese S ranks, yes, the Ant takes the abilities of those it consumes. -Regarding Cha and healing--for context--Jinwoo does know using the Elixir of Life won't work in the Novel, and does not even try. I think they show him using it here as a way to show that he did all he could before resorting to the method that he ends up using. -'Arise' only raises the Dead, Cha is dying not dead, Arise will not save her. The Elixir of Life didn't work because it is not a healing potion. Its purpose is to remove any and all status effects. So it will heal any disease, toxin, poison, purify the body of any impurities, etc. But it will not heal wounds, and Cha is dying from massive trauma and most likely massive internal bleeding. In the source material he doesn't even try the potion, he considers it, and then rejects the idea out of hand because he knows it will not work on her. So he doesn't waste a perfectly good Elixir on her, and instead immediately looks for the right solution since time is limited.

I know your comment was probably a one-up insult lol, but I honestly believe Meruem is one of the best anime villains ever written and especially when compared to one note flat villains like Cell, even equating the two feels like a joke. It's all about horses for courses. Sometimes I love a deep thinking, world building, make me guess kinda affair, other times I really want a switch my brain off and stare at the awesome spectacle kinda dig, but when an Anime does both like Overlord, One piece, Death note, Slime and anything by Ghibli it's rare perfection. SL is not trying to be both, it isn't deep, but it is pure unadulterated Sakuga, high quality and high stakes enjoyment, I don't think it's supposed to be taken as anything deeper but it is still PEAK at what it does, the pacing, the action, the pure adrenalin rush is perfectly encapsulated, so I dont get why people try to complicate things. Just enjoy it for what it is... Fun!

So some of the things you mentioned were in the episode. Like the broadcast being cut by the broadcast company. The broadcast lead guy at the company during the scene when he says to turn the broadcast back on said that he made the decision to cut the broadcast. It was a blink and you'll miss it piece of dialogue but it was there. They also did show that the ice guy died when Goto's team showed up on scene right before the black ant appeared as they showed his face when he was dead all shattered and cut up, so it was more then just implied. Everything else is accurate as far as I can tell just thought I would correct these minor things as they were actually shown in the episode. I don't know that I would classify this as "so much" was changed as the changes are clearly fairly minor and most of it was probably just cuts that had to be made to adapt the episode to the fit the allocated time they have per episode.

I don't know that i agree with this. Clearly the Japanese are made out to be dicks in the anime. I think its clearly just artistic license with how they perceived the scene and wanted to portray the scene. It came off pretty clearly to me that Jinwoo was stronger but not trying as his intent was never to try in that fight but was instead just wanting to feel out how strong they were and to get an opportunity to hide his soldier in their shadows.

It's simple because the show is enjoyable and knows exactly what it is. No one sits there and says that Solo Leveling is peak writing because everyone knows it isn't but its peak entertainment because its so well produced and enjoyable to watch. Animation goes a long ways when watching anime, its kind in the name.

So regarding the video feed, I was saying that in the Novel the broadcast company intentionally cut the feed because the Ant King was literally eating their S Rank hunters and they didn't want to show the Korean ppl that. But in the anime, they said the signal was lost on the Jeju side, and that is what I disagreed with. That discussion in the anime is in the first like couple of minutes of S2 E12, for reference. As for the ice guy dying, I wasn't confused about it, I was answering questions Luke made, probably in passing. But he seemed to be confused on the matter, so was clarifying for him. But anyway, thanks for replying to make sure I understood! Glad someone else is reading the comments. 😄

31:00 Yet.....I am still stupid stoked for the next episode. This was great in the manhwa, but the anime is FAAAAR more impactful and emotional. I already know what all the damn deals is, yet I was FEELING "it" the whole damn time. I feel personally blessed that the studio folks who had handled Splo Leveling gave not only their all, but their sweat, tears, nutsucks, ovaries, a few years off their lives, and who knows how much sleep. This has been so enjoyable, I'd nearly believe it if I heard that virgins had been sacrificed to refine and temper this adaptation.

The Ant served as Jinwoo’s public ‘coming out’. He showed that he was the strongest Hunter in Korea and Japan. Probably stronger than all the S ranks in those countries put together (if you include his army).

Rewatching this reaction a few months later just because and I gotta admit, this episode really is MUCH better in dub. Aleks Le absolutely KILLS the performance and it just sounds more "right" to me tbh. Really wish more reactors did the dubs but such is life. I will say though I have a TON of respect for you Luke for the fact that you don't care about the money and keep the music and such in so people can experience the full epic-ness. Thats really awesome and it means alot to us fans!
