SoulWhiteAngel

If i remember right welf is after hesphistos

CD

Luke forgets SOOO many OPs and EDs.....but this is the one ED he remembers, and all he saw was a foot.

SoulWhiteAngel

Btw remember who gave him the firebolt spellbook?

jdoggivjc

Crazy the change up this season, from “Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?” to “Is It Wrong to Try to Gaslight the Hell Out of Bell in Folkvnagr?”

Thanny

01:41:00 No, that's just a provincial attitude. There's nothing wrong with the ages, even ignoring the fact that this is set in a fantasy world without the very recent imposed standards you're catering to.

EnX_Reacts

I don’t usually comment on Patreon, but Luke… We need you to react to “To be hero X.” Massively under reacted to considering how good it is. The first episode was just released on Saturday 🙏

Daniel Gonzalez

The pullup by Freya on Hestia was crazy she was just like if Freya was actually Syr the whole time that means and then Freya is in her face asking for Bell then demanding,I was enjoying some of the silly stuff like Bells training him smiling at that one girl mid battle is so good and poor Cassandra I don't think she'll recover from what he did to her but the switch up was insane we immediately got jumped and everyone thinks Bells part of the Freya Familia outside of probably a handful of people

RandomTitanGuy

The gaslighting has come full circle. Freya gaslit Luke, Luke tried to gaslight us and now Freya has gaslit the town

AkariKageyuki

Am I missing something ? where is the rest of season 4? the last Danmachi reaction on patreon for season 4 ended on episode 14 so there should still be a few more episodes left in that before season 5.

Pyzlnar

The streams are already uploaded here, but sometimes don't appear on searches cuz Patreon's searches are kinda trash. You can try to search by clicking the danmachi tag, OR search "danmachi 15" and "danmachi 19" so you can see the other streams.

AkariKageyuki

Ahh yes when I searched just "Danmachi" they almost all show up so thats why I thought somehow it wasn't uploaded but your right when I searched "Danmachi 15" it came up how odd thank you :)

Pyzlnar

1:36:45 That's a poggers face if I've ever seen one, should be a twitch emote lmao.

I'm really enjoying S5 so far. I actually liked the start personally. S4 was so heavy this was a nice reprieve, and I also really like that there's a romance where one of the characters actually stepped up and admitted / acted on their feelings rather than just dragging it out endlessly. I thought Syr was Freya's sister, but the twist that happened is pretty neat. I am kind of confused about the date though. It seems like Horn asked Bell on the date, and got permission from Freya to go on the date, but then Freya went on the date instead? Seems like Horn didn't show up until after the date / inn scene, which confuses me since I thought the entire point was Horn trying to tempt Bell? I normally don't like replies giving answers, but if someone wants to explain that I'd be fine with it. -- I am really struggling to to figure out how we solve this new problem though. First, how the heck is Hestia the only God able to resist? Like she's a Virgin Goddess and Pure, so I understand that countering lust and love, but is she really the only one in the entire city? Is there no other god that can resist Freya's power, even by flexing their godly aura? If that's the case then why has Freya waited so long to conquer the whole city? She could have done this day 1. I genuinely don't know how we save the city. My first thought was Hestia. If she can resist the magic then she could maybe counter it with like purifying flames or whatever. Though she couldn't protect Hermes right next to her, couldn't protect her familia that's bonded to her, and she clearly didn't remove the spell from the familia before they bumped into Bell, so I don't know if she can free others or just protect herself. Maybe combined with Bells glowy Argonaut power thing she could? Like infuse his firebolt with her power so bell just runs around blasting people with white fire or something? That'd be silly but kind of cool. It'd be nice to see them working together to overcome the spell. Maybe others seeming them work together could also counter the false memories of the spell? That'd be interesting. There's also surely magic to break mind control in Danmachi. After all if they can make monster controlling collars that means they understand mind control magic, and would obviously look into ways to break mind control as well. The Xenos are also presumably free since they're in the dungeon, and they broke the dungeon's mind control, so maybe they could give insights into resisting this kind of spell? I think the obvious thing though is Freya needs to get sent back to Heaven. That would break the spell, and it'd prevent her from just doing this again in the future. I have no clue how we beat her though since her Familia is so strong. Even with a level up and level boost Bell's not beating super soldier guy, and maybe not even their other top familia members. Xenos aren't coming to the surface to help, and Minotaur bro probably isn't strong enough anyway. Maybe a God from outside the city comes with some familia? Like Hera could still be alive and if any of her familia is left they'd probably be strong enough, but I doubt it. Astrea coming back could be neat, and give us a way for Ryu to join the Hestia familia? Though I feel like if Astrea comes back Ryu would just leave with Astrea afterwards, so that's probably not happening. Hermes might also have magic that could undo the spell? He seemed to instantly know what was happening and gave Hestia the note to wake him up later for a reason, so I assume he has a plan / counter, he just didn't have time to enact it? Honestly I don't even know how that note is going to 'free' Hermes from the spell at all now that I think about it.

Pyzlnar

To answer your question. By the time Horn asked, it was already "decided" that Freya was going on a date with Bell. So she was asking if she could go on a date -too-. And she did! On the second day of the festival Freya family gave her the chance to meet Bell as Syr. But instead of a date she was planning to kill Bell. And the rest you already saw :)

Pyzlnar

Here's a fun non-spoiler trivia from the first arc of Danmachi. If you remember back then, Bell and Hestia were chased around by a Silverback Gorilla on the Daedalus streets after Freya charmed the monsters into doing so... but originally it was going to be Bell and Syr being chased! The editor at the time felt that it would be best to have Hestia being the one chased to better cement her as a heroine in the story, and so the story was changed. Yet the clues of that original idea remained in the story, as the reason of why Bell was in the festival in the first place was to give Syr's wallet back. And the command that Freya used on the Silverback was "Chase the little me". :)

TheKnightwatchOfficial

I love translation problems. In EP5, Hermes says it's only been 6 months since Bell joined Hestia's familia, yet in an earlier episode, someone said it had been a year since that goddess who was over Aisha had been killed and sent back to Heaven.

Sai

Am I the only one who hates the forced sub cat puns?

Good morning Luke, I'm here with a fun tidbit of Japanese/Anime culture. at 1:47:00 when Bell is talking to Hogni, in the subtitles it says "cringe-infected", which isnt far from the actual translation. He called him a "Chuunibyou" which literally translates to "Middle-school sickness", and it is a character archetype across many anime. It describes somebody with childish views of grandeur and usually special abilities, and long winded very "extra" monologues like this character does. "I am the lord of darkness, with powers granted... etc etc etc" And yes there are many anime who's whole selling point is that either the main character or somebody is a Chuunibyou. Megumin from Konosuba is a Chuuni, Cid from The Eminence in Shadow is a Chuuni, Okabe from Steins;Gate, and most famously Haruhi, from Haruhi Suzumiya.

Daniel Gonzalez

Yeah Patreon be kinda janky at times I remember having a similar issue for another reactor but manually searching helped then too

Daniel Gonzalez

As far as I'm concerned Omori is king pretty sure i heard its outsold SAO and we've gotten setups for days from S1 that pay off down the line both Ryus backstory and this Syr/Freya had been set up from the get go and seeing the end results is so satisfying I'm just sad were almost done hopefully they tackle SO again because I hear its even crazier maybe Omori can be a consultant like they were on S4

lmp

Luke needs some more mods during streams to stop spoilers. There were two dudes posting entire paragraph spoilers while arguing with each other throughout the whole stream.

WhopsInc.

And then when he does have Mods delete messages they aren't even spoilers and are just reminders of things he should already know, lol

Jakob Connell

is 'flexing their aura' the same as 'using their divine powers'? Like, what can the gods actually do? The only hint I can reemember is when hestia was in the dungeon and tried to save bell, but even then we don't really see what it's capable of

Jakob Connell

It's not 'provincial attitude' for people to be uncomfortable about a show having an underage character that multiple people are trying to 'get with'. Are you saying that these "very recent imposed standards" shouldn't be a thing? Not personally, I don't take much issue for shows like this because these anime are more marketed at people who would be in a similar stage in their life as the main character. That's why most anime have main characters who are in their teens, as it's one of the ways to get the target audience to connect with them. But that doesn't mean that others aren't allowed to feel uncomfortable by it, and it certainly doesn't mean that these 'very recent' imposed standards are wrong.

Kyle Garrett

Hermes told Hestia to 'boost her divinity' when he realized what was happening, so yeah I took that to mean surrounding herself in a cloak of her divine power. I always forget people these days use the word aura differently lol. I just assume other gods 'boosting their divinity' to use Hermes term, could resist Freya's power.

Yu ShangHsin

No, only Hestia and a few other selected virgin goddess (Athena and Artemis) could resist Freya's power. Different gods rule over different realms. When Freya, the goddess of love, boosted her divinity, she could charm an entire city. Since she is such a powerful goddess, it takes a virgen goddess as powerful as Hestia to barely be able to resist it by boosting her divinity as well.

syaimaral

I was thinking man it must suck to be Freya. Constantly worshiped by psychos. Then I find out she is a psycho too. The biggest psycho. I took a hiatus from the show because the first episode was so lighthearted, so much of a change. Glad I'm back.

Daniel Gonzalez

That ending was brutal his bro Welf and Lili acting like they didn't know him and Haruhime even being frightened and hiding behind Mikoto and poor Hestia she knows how much this is hurting Bell but she can't risk it yet

Daniel Gonzalez

Yknow we always talk about the ost which is for sure goated in anime how'd they get John Williams but I feel something doesn't get enough recognition either is this cast there are stellar performances throughout harem king withstanding we've got a variable who's who of VAs

davguev

Uh... What?

Daniel Gonzalez

So last comment on this but another reason the ending was so brutal is Bell has technically been orphaned twice already when his parents died before he met them and then when his Grandfather died so he really cares for his goddess and Familia so its understandable he was crushed stay strong Bell season ain't over yet

Don't feel bad, this arc is rather confusing. I think I've gone through the books 2 or 3 times and I still have difficulty remembering who is who at which time in the story. The book is even more confusing both because you don't have appearances or voices and because you get the inner monologue of Freya, Syr, and Horn kind of all coming at once. It is really well done. Also, agreed Luke. The story of Danmanchi is incredibly well done. If you think the anime is great with foreshadowing and plot intricacy, then the books would blow you away. Believe it or not, but the anime is putting in only the bare minimum to maintain a cohesive story. It's probably only about 60% or so that is animated. Like we've never even looked at any of Bell's or anybody else's other skills from leveling up. We've left out all short stories which are incredibly important for the growth of all side characters (this is why characters seem to go from 0 to 100 out of nowhere). Only 4 or so books of Sword Oratoria are animated out of 12 or 13. Not to mention all of the other series. There is so much more, but I say all of that to say... that even with all of that left out, the story is still amazing. However, it's even better with everything else. To answer a couple of questions without spoiling anything. Hestia not leveling up Bell in the anime was not explained well. Bell qualified for a level up after the event, however unlike all times previously, he barely qualified and his stats were far from being maxed out. She gave him the option to level up if he wanted, but she recommended that he stay at level 4 for longer to max out his stats. He agreed. Also, another side plot that was left out was Welf and Hephaestus. After he got out of the dungeon, he went and showed his new creation to Hephaestus. She was immediately impressed and realized that it nearly encroached upon the realm of being a divine level weapon, but she tried to play it cool. She was like "It's a very good weapon, nothing like what I could make with my powers..." Hephaestus was about to tell him that the sword was impressive enough that she would be his lover, but she got cut off and Welf was like "Yeah, it's not nearly good enough to be worthy of you." He then went on to spout off stuff like this is only the beginning and I will bring you something even better. He then ran off to go and craft something, leaving her by herself in front of her familia's headquarters... angry and shouting to herself "Is smithing the only thing that guy cares about?"

rarebearvt

You made me google "Losing My Religion" and now I'm angry

The Norse gods in their true mythology take on many names. They also have a penchant for mingling amongst humans having relationships and testing them. Syr happens to be another name for Freya in actual mythology. It is very cool how the actual mythology was worked into this character. Every action Syr took since season 1 was calculated and meant to assist Bells growth and watch over him.

TheErisianMonk

The remark on wanting all characters to be 18...that's a rough one to pull off for many of those writers. It's not just that these sort of worlds/cultures/societies would see 14/15 years old as a consenting adult. Having characters who are would be 18 or older could rarely be the "starter." At 18, in DanMachi, most Adventurers would have years of experience, thus beginning the story as anything but a rookie. They would already have a reputation and scars and they would already have a more set perspective on how they see their future. You'd never have a Bell in that story. You would likely have a Welf, a Ryuu, a Tione/Tiona. That would not be the story Fujino Sensei wanted. What would make it "easier" would be refraining from equating these fictional characters with IRL cultural expectations. If age is a general concern to you, then focusing on the ages of characters would be detrimental to your experience. If you dgaf about how old they are, then they are whatever age you internally "require" them to be for your self created standards. If I found a reacter I didn't know of being engrossed in the ages of the characters, I'd feel weirded out and feel like they aren't enjoying the content. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

menelito

Yeah, I absolutely hate this format. It has completely ruined the Steins;Gate reaction and added (in my opinion) zero value at all to all other content. Luke is being distracted and shown spoilers every two seconds and it's quite annoying... but the thing that probably annoys me the most is that in the rare moments when someone gives actual useful info that Luke SHOULD already know (but he forgot as usual) and that could improve his understanding and appreciation of the anime, they get lectured to not do so because "iT's SpOiLeRs!1!"... I swear, I don't get it, sometimes it looks like people are having fun looking at his confused face.

Fabien

Yeah I find it a bit shallow to demand characters from fantasy worlds to always respect our boundaries as 21th century western spectators, even when it means a less logical story in the process.

Eli Gamarra

EXACTLY! I hate it when people can't make a distinction between reality and FANTASY, especially in anime
