You'll never be "ready" for Gintama. Even if you watch every anime there's still a metric ton of Japanese popculture and TV references. Just watch it whenever you want

Gintama and bleach has the greatest endings ratio in term of long anime

For sure you can get the historical references, for example there are many characters based on people from late 19th century era (Bakumatsu, Meiji restoration...)... also I saw a crest (some are used till present) referencing warlord from Sengoku era so also some samurai anime more based on reality might help you :)

To answer your question a lot of longer anime do 2 endings for 1 opening which is why shows like Naruto Shippuden, Gintama, and Bleach have double the amount of endings than openings

I think Gintama will be your favourite too. We seem to have quite similar taste and Gintama is probably my favourite anime with One Piece. I think you should probably watch Bleach first since there is an entire episode you won’t understand if you haven’t. But on the other hand nobody gets all references and you can still enjoy it. Also that white bird thing is Elizabeth. I’ve watched Gintama at least twice and I don’t know what that is😂😂

There are some special endings Luke that’s why there are more endings than openings, you definitely at least need to watch Bleach before you watch Gintama

Don't forget Dragon Ball. There are a lot of Dragon Ball reference in this show, way more than Bleach.

Gintama is in my top 5 favorite anime of all time and hearing the endings again have swooned my heart all over again! The "bird like" creature is Elizabeth, Katsura's (the longed, dark hair guy) right hand man ;) The guys in black uniform are in a way policemen, but they are just as comical as the main cast :) The female singer you confused "Ano" with is called Hitomi Takahashi. She sang really popular songs for anime during the 2000s. She isn't heard much anymore, but I still love her voice and play her music from time to time.

The setting in Gintama put simply is the end of the Edo period of Japan, if instead of opening their borders and allowing trade with the rest of the world, aliens invade Japan, and ban all swords. So basically Americans are aliens

The thing about Gintama it has 2 types of episodes, there's the random comedy episodes and then there's the serious episodes that are part of the serious arcs and both versions will have you crying from laughing or for sadness, at times both in the episodes.

That's not all the endings of Gintama. But that's indeed all the endings from 4:3 aspect ratio Gintama. The 16:9 aspect ratio Gintama in fact had more banger endings

18:30 The time period Gintama takes place in is not long after the implementation of the 1876 sword ban in Japan that disarmed the general population. Guns have been prominent in Japan since as early as the mid-1500s but, as far as I know, semi-auto handguns like this (looks like a Colt) were a turn of the 20th Century thing, like 30-40 years after when the show is probably set. However, in Gintama the premise is aliens invaded and took over and, thanks to that, technology on Earth went kind of crazy. So I guess the explanation is they just got there much quicker after the split in history.

The Gintama ending 17 is not only for me the best one, it is one of the best endings out there in my opinion! Unfortunately it didn't make it in this part. ^^

@ElectricAnt THIS! i hate when people say hes "not ready" like what do you mean? He will miss a few references here and there but so what? Gintama is funny without them, references are just extra. And not talking about everything else besides the jokes.

Yea lmao in the past 6-7 years I have watched many anime read many manga and got a lot more cultural knowledge etc bout Japan. Rewatched gintama fully 4 months ago and still didn’t get quite a few references. BUT regardless I loved it.

I watched Gintama before watching bleach , never watched Naruto or one piece. You do not need to consume every anime to enjoy the show . That’s the most annoying take I hear from people I think simply being aware of those shows is enough

Summer rain is the best! I have memories of taking on a bathing suit and playing outside every time I could when there was summer rain. Now, as an adult, it's been a while since I have seen heavy summer rain, but I will still go outside and let myself get soaking wet with heavy spring rain. It's a lot of fun

U right about not skipping fillers in Gintama. The only fillers that might be skipped are the first 2 episodes, not because they are bad, but because the literally first 2 episodes are fillers for the manga readers, celebrating the manga getting an anime lol
