Watched this in theatres when it was released. Loved the music. Plot might not have been perfect, enjoyed the movie none the less. Still cry every time at one scene. Summer Wars is another good one. Definitely worth a watch.

I just realized the amoeba AI thing from the beginning might have actually been the younger brother. Their speech patterns are really similar, though I could be wrong

There is another older anime movie with the same animation quality and VR theme called "Summer Wars". It's is truly an S tier movie. I got hooked on the old Japanese card game called " Hanafuda" and I was lucky enough to be commissioned by a friend to make pieces for the main avatar characters outfit.

The movie is nice, but Luke is right when he says that both of the main characters plots are completely different and disjointed. There is a bit of overlap that gives them some decent chemistry, but it feels like whiplash. She just latches onto this random guy out of nowhere without knowing him. Even if it's because she wonders about his loneliness and pain and how she relates, it's not as seamless a transition as it should be. Feels like it's missing several scenes, anyone know if anything got cut? -

I think one of the ways that the mother drowning may be can be explained is that, while it might have been the better option to take the canoe or even a second life vest. It might be a case of people not always doing the best thing when their is danger.

My biggest wish is that you’d consider watching the anime in English as well as Japanese. I love the authenticity of watching the original, but I have vision issues and reading the subtitles isn’t always an option. So any of your videos that aren’t English audio, I have to give up on. Which really really sucks, because I was so excited when I saw Belle and some of my favorite studio Ghibli movies. I’m not even bothering to try the now, it would be too frustrating.

Wish you'd watched any other Hosoda film before this one. Belle is fine but imo one of his weakest works. I suggest Summer Wars, Girl Who Leapt Through Time, even Mirai.
