What? 💀 You think that the only opportunities he’s had to do anything with the characters are just what we see on screen? He literally lives with them. The times where he’s interrupted are simply a gag and don’t account for anywhere near the actual amount of time he spends with them. So yes, Raynare is the primary reason why Issei hasn’t been able to take the next step in his relationships. These critiques are just random at this point 😂

Yeah SHAFT studios does great work on animation and I love their style I can tell just watching 10 mins of an episode. I remember when I first watched Nisekoi and seen the falling animation then, color scheme and the head tilt I was like this is SHAFT for sure.

You're asking all of the right questions Luke. lol The season 4 drop off was predicted, so no surprise. I hope in the future you will get to experience a better ecchi anime. DxD was just a baseline so you would know what to expect. It's not the best example, but it did the job. I personally think ecchi comedies tend to have the best writing, but that might just be personal bias.

I've mentioned familiar of zero before but somebody mentioned the main heroine louis is disliked a lot so probably wouldn't get a lot of following. i personally like it. i think in a sense the male character seito evolves a bit more than issei does - or more in a straight line put it that way.

Luke - regarding watching a tv screen at a stadium - believe it or not we actually do that here in America. Here me out. In the playoffs of the major sports - hockey football and basketball we actually host home playoff watching events for when the team is on the road. that way you get to have a big party atmosphere and still celebrate and support the team with friends and family. One side benefit is the tickets are usually dirt cheap since you're not actually watching the team. I've never been to one but its actually a real thing. I cant say they do it for baseball and its not every year for every away playoff game. But they've certainly done it for the Detroit Red Wings NHL hockey team (back when the made playoffs :( :() but yes its an actual thing. Back to dxd: unfortunately i think dxd had the studio problem as brought up before. It could also be way overplayed. Like who a lot of move "trilogies" really should only be 2 movies or 1 and half movies. lots of filler or side quests or straight up retcon (hate that term just bugs me for no particular reason). Unfortunately its been so long since ive seen season 4 i cant remember if there is a decent pay off or not. But i would say WATCH MORE OF THE OVAS PLEASE!!!!!! want more sus dont ya????

As a major DxD fan, who owns all of the English licensed light novels, I’m seeing a lot of people faulting G.O.T for not understanding the narrative and critiquing him for it. I really can’t fault him for not finding the narrative impactful. You have to remember that season three literally resolved the Raynare trauma arc, as well as Rias’s insecurity. And season 4 comes into a full reset. This isn’t the fault of season 4, it’s the fault of season 3 that they’re going over the same story, since the studio deviated from the novel, and rushed to resolve arcs. But can you really blame the viewer for not enjoying it? Season 4 is a great adaptation if you’re a novel reader, otherwise it’s really confusing. There are entire confrontations and fights like the Sona rating game, or the first Hero faction fight, that are summarized in seconds because they were skipped over in season 3. Now, anyone calling DxD straight up bad just hasn’t read the light novel, considering it’s highly rated (above an 8 on MAL.) but the series at this point is just a mess to understand for anime-only viewers.

Yeah, old school tsundere are not appreciated like they once where. So even though I enjoyed The familiar of zero back in the day, the modern audience is less likely to do so..

A big problem is that the anime (mostly seasons 1-3) skipped all of Issei’s inner monologue and thoughts that were in the novel. So I completely understand why someone only watching the anime wouldn’t feel that Raynare had as much impact on him. It a fault of the adaptation of seasons 1-3. Also calling someone by their name without any honorifics or title, Rias vs Buchou (president) is so much more meaningful in Japanese culture than it is in western culture. There is a huge intimacy there and taking that step with Rias would have been huge for Issei and his fears about Raynare absolutely held him back. So yes your comment about him calling her Buchou and not Rias was correct. It was because of his fears caused by Raynare that he couldn’t do that. But so much much of this was was missed in the first three seasons of the anime and only in season 4 do we finally get to see some of his inner struggles and trauma that were supposed to be shown in earlier seasons but weren’t.

Oh, Zero no Tsukaima... That unlocked so many memories. I always disliked Louise, though. Been watching anime since mid 2000's and never liked tsunderes, especially the slapstick type like Louise or Taiga. Shana wins here.
