Obito lost the love of his life, and he's understood. Now Sasuke has lost his entire clan, his family, to his own brother who tried to "kill" him afterward, and he was forced to relive it several times through advanced genjutsu, and he's not understood. I can't understand the Naruto community. This is how at least I view it: From the moment Obito saw Rin dying and getting the Mangekyo (especially with this particular ability), he literally coped himself into believing that he is indeed in Hell. (Basically saying „no world where a person like Rin has to die, could be a real world“). His 180 was triggered by Rin but it’s more like his belief in the world itself was shattered and thus not caring anymore about anything in this world, hence he had no issue at all with killing Minato or Kakashi, it doesn’t matter to him in this „hell“. Meanwhile also having the option by Madara to create a world, where everything could be rewritten. I would not say that Obitos past is worse than sasukes, it’s a completely different approach and not comparable and I definitely agree with you that sasukes path is least as understandable as obitos.

If you're talking about the constant pausing and breaks, a lot of what still makes it entertaining is reading and replying to people in chat. Otherwise, it would be very obnoxious trying to watch 15 hours of this without being able to skip. No offense to my boy.

1:26:40 - Luke is too smooth brain to understand the genius of Kabuto's plan. I had to skip the Kabuto backstory ep because Luke's reaction was just way too annoying to me. So much whining about not feeling bad when its just a damn story explaining his character, not some big plot to make you feel bad and the plalcement. Like I was oddly so annoyed at Luke's whining I wanted to just stop watching totally. Never been so drained listening to someone complain. Ugh, now I'm doing it!

We're all only human, and to a degree he's objectively not wrong, but it just seems like he doesnt take production and logistics of a weekly anime into account, and expects modern quality of past products.

Well its not that, to be honest. Granted if there is a character that I dont give a shit about, yeah I'll not really give a shit about their backstory either. But, I think Luke was caught up with some idea that "Okay fine, if I watch the backstory I might actually like the story being told!" But thats not the point of the backstory, its to eventually just flesh out how this character came to be and particularly with Kabuto, its a story about identity, figuring out who you are. You dont have to LIKE it, you just have to understand it for the story being told. COULD they have gave us Kabuto's story of him growing up at a different part and not at the climax of this fight? Sure, maybe. But, as goes with most anime tropes, you do a backstory of a side-character when that character is going to hit a pivotable moment, likely die or just be defeated. After all this, Kabuto's story is finished, he'll have no real part to play anymore, so its really the last time it could ever be shown. And honestly I cant think of any other moment in Naruto, at least in the anime, where they could have slipped in his backstory. It wouldn't have made sense.

Kabuto's backstory had zero impact on me since he's an evil mass murderer, nothing that happens can make me feel like he was justified or feel bad for him. It'd be like having a WW2 reenactment and giving me a Hitler flashback before he dies. I'm just not going to change my opinion about him or his actions, no matter what you show. Having villains you can understand or relate to can be a good thing, but not every villain needs a backstory. Sometimes people are just plain evil. I also agree with Luke it's bad timing for it. Like if back when Sasuke was still with Orochimaru him and Kabuto were having a chat and this happened I could appreciate it a bit more, but like Luke said there's way more interesting stuff going on right now, so who cares about Kabuto.

I'm definitely with Twitch Chat that Luke didn't get it right away that Obito was Tobi. Took him 2 min into the flashback to even guess that, and before that he was just cracking jokes and confused. Whole point of the start being voiceless is to give the viewer time to get over the shock of the reveal ask their 'wtf how is this possible' kind of questions, and then recover enough that when the dialogue comes in you're just eager for answers. xD

Well, just started my 3rd continuation of watching this subathon, and immediately 4 episodes in, I want a break. That whole Kabuto flashback reaction from Luke was so off-putting. He's complaining about the flashback being bad, I complain about the reaction to it being bad.. No offense to Luke in general, since I really like the dude and his reaction, and I'm also not a fan on backstories during the climax of a fight. But this part was just oozing negativity and put me out of the mood to watch the reaction. I'm here for a good time, not incessant complaining.

I think the subathon should be split over two days but I guess that defeats the purpose of a subathon? Idk but I think it’d be a better viewing experience. I like the subathon a because these series are so long they’re a good way to finish them a bit faster

Kabuto’s backstory had to be there because it was important to understand the Izanami loop he ends up in. I’m not sure about where else it could have gone tbh but I’m open to ideas. Think chat needed to just let it go and Luke needed to just accept it was happening and just watch it lol
