I think a few shorter shows would be great. We have many anime with 50-130 episodes waiting. In the 130+ episode range we only have - My Hero Academia - Gintama - Bleach - Inuyasha - Fairy Tail - Dragon Ball - The Legend of Galactic Heroes - Kingdom - Sailor Moon - One Piece left. We watched: - Naruto - JoJo's Bizarre Adventure - Hunter x Hunter

Great reaction. I always really loved these episodes. But I have to say it is so aggravating when people complain about Naruto flashbacks. I understand you are watching these back to back and don't need the recaps and flashbacks. But Naruto aired on a weekly basis, and we needed the flashbacks back then. Sure, you don't need the flashbacks when you are binge watching it, but when Naruto was animated, it wasn't made with a binge viewer in mind. Having a 7 day break between a single 20 minute episode made flashbacks very helpful.

No. We didn't need flashbacks when it was airing weekly. The hundreds of other anime that aired weekly, and even take year-long breaks, don't use flashbacks as excessively as Naruto does.

A 720 episode anime that aired for 15 years on a weekly basis. Yeah, we needed those flashbacks. The story was so expansive, that the flashbacks helped the story to feel cohesive over such a long period of time. Many other anime from that time were not as long, nor had such a large type of story and universe.

The 700 chapter manga that released for 15 years on a weekly basis did not need constant flashbacks. Neither did the 366 episodes series Bleach that also aired weekly for 8 years at the same time. We have anime now that go on year-long breaks and they do not use or need constant flashbacks. No. We did not need the constant flashbacks. We did not need a flashback to something that happened the previous episode. We did not need flashbacks of the same thing TWICE within the SAME EPISODE. The horrible pacing of Naruto, in large part due to the excessive use of repetitive flashbacks, is the reason I stopped watching it weekly.

Its unlikely that Jiraiya is intended to be any part of the Senju clan bloodline given the whole romance dynamic with one of the only living Senju we know (Tsunade). If he's closely related to Tobirama then he's closely related to Tsunade, too, so that probably wasn't Kishimoto's intent.

People have to remember that Naruto was a weekly series. So instead of padding out the time with long drawn out scenes of characters staring at each other making grunting noises, like in DBZ, Naruto uses flashbacks to pad the time.

you keep forgetting when naruto is airing its also waiting for the next chapter for them to animate, not that hard to understand that flashbacks and fillers are going to be needed, and one piece has the same issue and now they are going to switch up to seasonal release which is better.

Comparing anime to manga is like comparing apples to oranges. They are composed differently and with their own unique story-telling mechanics. And Bleach as an example is almost essentially half of Naruto's years running and half of the episode count. Not a good comparison really since Naruto essentially doubles Bleach. And with modern anime, again, none of them are running for such a spread of years and on such a long weekly release schedule. I mean, this war arc alone was animated weekly for 4 years. I think most people would agree you could use flashbacks for something you watched months, a year, 4 years, or even longer ago. As a weekly watcher, I needed those flashbacks over all those years. I think many others who watched weekly would agree.

Exactly, the last comment hit the nail on the head. If there are series that take a looooong break between seasons, years, eons, and they don't abuse flashbacks, then other series don't need to do that either.

For your personal timeslot I hope you check out Gurren Lagann and Evangelion one day. Both are classics in anime, but I don't see either of them actually winning votes or being particularly popular, but they're anime worth watching and having on your anime resume. I guess this is also going to be your chance to finally watch Haikyu too!

TTGL is highly likely to win a tourney sooner the later as it shows up nearly every time. I don't think Luke needs to tip the scales on that. Eva sadly does not have as much pull in this crowd. it shows up as recommendations here and there but far more rare. Haikyuu is also a mainstay in tourneys but does struggle to get out of the lower brackets. However the next set tourney will be a sports based one due to the last naruto subathon goals.

Even when watching weekly you don’t need flashbacks of something that happened 3 weeks ago. The literal only reason they are there is because the animators didn’t have enough content to animate or didn’t have enough time to animate everything they needed to.

Yeah no recaps are for viewers in case they forgot events of a previous episode they don't change the story. Flashbacks are like what's happening with they madara and hashirama story or for a character to remember another characters words. Something actively happening in the story. Don't believe me ask Google👍
