IMPORTANT INFO from last stream > SPORTS TOURNAMENT IS ON 4th JANUARY

Hiruman

It's one of the best sport anime.

Horus

Definitely voting for Haikyuu because we all need to fly high :-)

Sean

Ippo is an incredible show. Also Ping Pong the Animation is a top tier sports anime, or just show in general, a masterpiece of character drama. If you want realistic character development done to perfection, see Ping Pong. And as another NHL fan who watched your Rangers get smacked down by my Blackhawks a few days ago, gg 🙃.

Ultimatum

Vote for Hajime no Ippo.

Christopher Wells

Hajime no Ippo was the best sports anime of its time and still holds up today. Great pacing, great matches, pretty funny, and characters you'll love

Bersain Balbuena

Hajime no Ippo is better than Rocky IMO. But i guess Haikyu will sadly win. Everyone watches Haikyu....

Virax

Hajume no Ippo, Haikyuu, Major and Eyeshield 21 are my all time favorites between sports anime they are for me in another league of sports anime

Zer0

Would Luke like it? Yeah.

Yula

Heyyy time to listen to old anime opening and endings

Illyasviel

Absolutely voting for Hajime no Ippo, though I'm 100% sure it won't win because of Haikyu and younger people haven't seen Ippo.

Phyrumaru

Haikyu will win sadly. More popular, every youtuber/reactors keep reacting Haikyu, a shame other sport anime exist. Hajime no Ippo get better with each season.

Nate Ming

My all-time favorite: this series inspired me to get off my ass and lose 150+lbs and get my coaching license Also the manga's *still* going, we're up to volume 144 now and it's still great

Nugzio

I do like Haikyuu, but Hajime no Ippo should be the first one to be reacted to. Still holds up and the story is awesome. I am pretty sure it inspired so many people to get into shape.

Nate Ming

re: realism Hajime no Ippo exaggerates a lot of stuff, but the mechanics are pretty spot-on The story works in a rhythm of daily life > training > FIGHT > recover, and we even get whole stretches of story that's not about Ippo himself--I always call the second series (New Challenger) "Hajime no Everybody Else"

gggoos

It feels like a cheat to have Ping Pong in the sports category. That show would be the best show even outside of that category. Ping pong is definitely my favorite sports anime but if you want a more true sports anime then ippo is definitely the choice. Ippo is definitely a very good sports anime and imo aged relatively well

Franky Boss

Yes best anime, in my top 5

Canelas

Highest rating sports anime, it was top 10 overall at some point I think (way back then)

Tatersalad666

Hajime no Ippo is incredibly good. Every single person I have showed it to loved it and has been inspired to get in better shape because of it. It is a show where the main character grows up and you follow him through his life and boxing career. One thing that I really appreciate is that it is very much grounded in realism rather than giving people literal superpowers. This is in my opinion the best sports anime to start with.

Frentzy

For those who can't watch a sport anime, and are addicted to shounen then watch: "Kuroko no Basket"  Even tho it's a sport anime, it feels closer to naruto/bleach than hajime no ippo or haikyuu. It is a gate way anime to start watching sport animes, the characters feels like they have super powers

Frentzy

Here some "abilities / super powers" of the characters: - One guy scores 3 points from anywhere in the basketball court, always, 100% accuracy, never misses, if he gets the ball, your team loses. - Another guy has kinda sharingan, his dribbling is so good, that enemies just trip and fell and it looks like he applied genjutsu (he has red eyes and he looks into the eyes of enemy and when he does that , they just "fall", they can't stand anymore on their feet) - Another guy is invisible, he is short and he is that guy in the group who no one notice him, the quiet kid, because of that, even on the court, he slips enemies eyes and it feels like he just keeps disappearing and he makes super human passes, he intercept the ball and steal the ball from the strongest cuz they just "don't see him" until it's too late. - Another has the ability to copy other's abilities. So he could "copy" the ability of the other guy who does 3 pointers with 100% accuracy, and now you have 2 people that can suddenly make 3 pointers at 100% accuracy anywhere on the court

Frentzy

PS: I know it's shameless plug AD but I believe that any shounen fan who loves super powers, might be into this one, more so than your average "normal" sports anime. PS2: I gave this anime to my friend, he binged, and then he went to binge hajime no ippo as well (gate way drug for sports anime) PS3: I gave this anime to my brother who spends 8h per day on his computer and now he goes outside and actually play basketball. PS4: You don't need to watch sports but... if you want the least "sports anime" but still counts as sport, this one is pretty good

Slipstream

Keijo!!!!!!!! IS a sports anime! TFW, Luke has to hold a sporst only tourny because it's literally the only way that a sports anime would ever win. Sport bro's mad they keep loosing, so Luke had to lower the bar enough so they don't lose again, lol A sports anime will very likely perform similar to The Apothecary Diaries. A.K.A a very small niche audience. Of course we have LOT's of sports anime. So don't assume the sports anime that win's will be the one you've been hoping for. ;) This is going to be fun! :)

Slipstream

Lot's of sports anime. Why would Haikyuu win when it lost the last three tournys?

Sai

If he does Ippo my faith in this place will be restored.

yorozuyapetel

Hajime no ippo is an amazing show. The only issue with it, is that Hajime no ippo is the start of madhouse’s reputation of not continuing shows. It’s still an ongoing manga, the anime started in 2001 iirc, and the last season was in 2013. So it doesn’t really have an ending. Even despite that, you would absolutely love this show if you even enjoy boxing in the slightest.

yorozuyapetel

I say the start of this reputation but it’s just the first instance I know of, I’m not at all knowledgeable on madhouse as a whole

Ran Encabo

I hope Hajime no Ippo and Slam dunk gets a series reaction

Flyr

Ippo is one of the most motivating shows I’ve watched

Robert Dirk H.

Sports anime? So - Haikyuu - Slam Dunk - Ping Pong The Anination - Chihayafuru - Run with the Wind - Hajime no Ippo - Major - Medalist - Cross Game - Ashita no Joe - One Outs - Diamond no Ace - Kuroko no Basket - Megalo Box - Yuri!!! on Ice - Free! - Keijo!!!!!!!! To be honest Keijo would be funny as hell, but I think it will be Haikyuu.

Virax

Hanebado! is also a good option

Huro

If you liked monster (and i know you did, i was here watching it with you), youll love Hajime no Ippo. Why? Because they are both masterpieces of their genres. Old anime that everyone knows are good, but that not everyone watch, but the few that do probably have them as one of their favourite anime.

Ben

The mangaka of hajime no ippo was a former pro boxer and is a cornerman/owns a boxing gym in Japan. This anime will definitely make you cry Luke

Kosumi

Hajime No Ippo's fighting is pretty realistic, the only thing that's exaggerated comes from the sound design adding effects to really make us understand the power behind the punches. Hajime no Ippo is amazing, I really hope it wins the sports tournament over the newer anime like Haikyuu

DRACO

I'd love to see back to back reaction on Haikyuu!! I think it is perfect for Luke's reaction!

SakakiMaya

In this case they may also have a hard time going on since the VA for the coach died and I think the replacement for him has passed away as well.

SakakiMaya

Hajime no Ippo mostly follows the titular Ippo a high school student who is being bullied and starts boxing to get tougher. The show mostly follows him learning to box, making friends with the guys from the gym along with their fights and training as well. There's quite a bit outside of the gym and the ring as well to develop the characters. Like Ippo works part time on his mom's fishing boat, one boxer in the gym works at a ramen shop, etc. There's also quite a bit of slapstick and humor and a running gag of a dick joke.

Juan G.

I used to think sports anime would be boring but Hajime No Ippo, Slam Dunk & Major were GOATED and introduced me to a complete new side of anime and I love them for it lol Also as a former baseball player special shout outs to Cross Game & Touch but I know baseball anime not for everyone. Hope you pick Hajime No Ippo since I'm down for a rewatch lol

Link

I have no interest in sports in general but there's been two shows that despite that hooked me instantly. Hajime no Ippo and Initial D. Both are amazing series. Hajime no Ippo especially is just so good in all the right ways, it has really hype moments and some really emotional ones. It has great humor and just the right level of exaggerations, the kind that makes you go "Yeah, that's not how that would go, but I can suspend my disbelief because of how awesome it is!"

DamnBust

Oh Luke, you're gonna love Hajime no Ippo. It's got everything, a good underdog story of a kid, who got into sports, because he was getting bullied, incredible fights, good comedy and great story. Also this is one of the most authentic sports shows when it comes to letting viewers experience what sportsmen go through. It portrays the growth, hardships, passion and sacrifices from all kinds of people.

Zensari

ippo is a great show, but it also has chimera ant arc pacing involving someone getting punched in the face over and over

Lero Ro

Hope to win slam dunk man

IamBaum

Honestly, i want to see Keijo win as his first sports anime as well :D But i assume it will be Haikyuu, it is the most popular one (unless i'm mistaken).

Lazy Lenni

As far as I remember, Hajime no Ippo references many real boxing techniques and goes quite in-depth when it comes to the fights. That's part of what makes the series so engaging in the long term. Also, the characters are pretty interesting. This is the anime that made me want to work out, back when I was a teenager.

Gaghun215

Best Sport Anime by far in my Opinion. Emotionally and exiting masterpiece
