Grey4953

Uma musume better be here or I call bs to that title

Nero1999

Sports anime op without Inazuma Eleven?

Hail Zod

It has to be haikyu

Roxy’s Holy Relic

Keijo!!!!!!!! is the greatest sports anime ever made. Glad to see it on this list and I hope it will be in the upcoming sports tournament

Kenny Vu

Ping Pong the Animation is the best "sports" anime out there. It does not follow normal sports anime tropes and has such a great story with realistic characters. Not to say that it doesn't have its hype moments. Also check out Scorching Ping Pong Girls. The opening is straight fire.

Roli D. Great

Are these supposedly in the title 'the BEST sports anime openings of all time'? seriously?...lol

Tyler Rimmel

It almost has to be. Blue Lock was also amazing but the second season dropped the ball on animation. The finale was epic though.

Moustapha Mrn

Eyeshield 21 is absolute peak Luke

Michael

No it doesn’t

Wasp_SK

Inazuma eleven😭

Shiro_NGDP

I think Luke should do a part 2 of this video. A list without Inazuma Eleven, Haikyuu, Blue Lock, Kuroko no Basket, Ace of Diamond, and a bunch of other sports anime feels weird.

shiro kun

Sk8 the infinity IS SOOOOOO GOOOOOOD it had a niche but BIG hype around it when it came out, i would LOVE if you react to this one day 😍😍😍

KT

Ping pong is genuinely a 10 anime the most real feeling anime in my opinion with kensuke as the composer (chainsaw man and silent voice composer) it has some of the best character writing out there couldn’t recommend it enough

Rem is best waifu

Sports/games should be in the same category. I would like to see Chihayafuru reacted to sometime, but Haikyuu and Kuroko's Basketball are my top 3. However Keijo is a close runner up.

Oliver Segelhorst

Also Hikaru no Go. IIt is an older Anime but I have never thought that GO can be an intense sport

Oliver Segelhorst

Also Keijo is a gret Sports Anime because they take this really serious

Nikkelz

Keep in mind hes likely choosing titles he hasn't already checked out. Hes done the OPs for haikyuu, Kuroko and blue lock. If a part 2 comes out for this still likely won't contain any of those.

Bersain Balbuena

Ping pong is amazing¡, and Red line is a movie amazing too¡, but red line is only for patreon.

Daniel Gonzalez

So did people just recommend titles to you then you looked up the openings or is there a video titled best sports anime openings of all time? Anyway since the continuation of Act is coming next year may I suggest Ace of Diamond personally I think its got some really low lows but the highs are so much better because of it

Nikkelz

Anything with a sports tag on anilist or mal will be legal for the tourney. that includes chihayafuru & hikaru no go. Does not include "martial arts" as a tag though as it would allow many battle shounen that are not sports into the mix. There are a few "sports" centric marital arts shows that sadly do fall into no-mans land but the goal is for the tourney to be simplified and run smooth <3

Daniel Gonzalez

Redline is the movie that bankrupted that one studio isn't it? Its funny he says the teaser is minimalist which it is but just compared to the movie, which I think is all hand drawn and took like 7 years, its quite the contrast

DecoyBlackMage

Ping Pong is, one of the best anime experiences ever, absolute brilliant. As for Redline, that is a film, a fucking amazing film, but still a film, it also took them 7 DAMN YEARS to make, 100% worth watching, literally some of the best animation you will ever see.

gggoos

Ping pong the animation, I wish we get to see that but unlikely.

gggoos

Ping pong definitely has some of the best characters out there. The only "downside" of the anime is that it's "only" 11 episodes long lmao

Qenzo99

The video title should be the shittiest anime openings ever lol

Shendri27

umamusume is basicaly a sport anime you have to watch it :)

Hail Zod

I'd rather tear my eyes out than watch him watch that

Jonathan Perez

Umamusume better win. Also redline is a movie

Nate Ming

More sports anime to check OPs for: Slam Dunk Initial D One Outs Giant Killing Ace of Diamond

Ltnorm

Great watch Umamusume

EternallyLost

Though I'm partial to people checking on Umamusume Cinderella Gray there's plenty of Great Sports Anime would gladly through in Vote for Koroko No Basket (aka Basket Ball Z) and the rather underrated Hinomaru Sumo (which at the very least so should chekc out the Op and ED as they get me hyped)

JimenezC

sport anime ops I could think of: Prince of Tennis Yowamushi Pedal Baby steps Tsurune Free! Iwatobi Swim Club Yuri on Ice! Slam Dunk! Ace of Diamond

mjaomjao2

Redline, like most anime movies, doesn't have a proper opening. It does however have a pretty good ending song called Redline Day.

Covthly

Medalist opening next

Slipstream

As a man of culture, I too believe Keijo!!!!!!!! to be an excellent candidate for Luke's sport reaction. But should we not consider other worthy options? Harukana Receive Softenni! the Animation Walkure Romanze Wanna Be the Strongest in the World And just for good measure: Issho ni Training: Training with Hinako We have to fill those brackets up with some real gems. Then the sports bros can finally have a moment is the spotlight. Then let's do Higurashi for a horror or Hinamatsuri for comedy. Although Seitokai Yakuindomo or Nichijou are also worthy candidates. Sports anime are like no alcohol beer. Why do people like it?

Slipstream

Luke has already watched a sports anime: Death Parade. Didn't the characters play "games"? Didn't Luke mention that he was going to be open minded as to what is considers a sport? :D Luke has already watched a sports anime. So this i really a second anime to help sooth the fragile hopes and dreams. lol Sports bro's needing a second anime to feel special, smh... For a second round, maybe consider: Girls Und Panzer Harukana Receive Softenni! the Animation Teekyuu Walkure Romanze Wanna Be the Strongest in the World If you are watching dubs, you are just watching cartoons. Why pretend?

Krolliox

Sorry dude, but WTF, who picked this videos, some of the worst sports anime? C'mon, if you want to check out sport anime openings, watch from Inazuma Eleven, Prince of Tennis, Major, Captain Tsubasa 2002, Eyeshield 21, Yowamushi Pedal, Hungry Hearts Wild Striker.

Yui

You should watch the Eyeshield 21 openings. There are 5 of them. It's an american football anime.

thewizardninja

Opening with Keiijo is fucking hilarious but it would be an awful "first sports anime" since its entire appeal is satire on a genre you haven't seen before. You take the most ridiculous sport that nobody could take seriously and make the characters take it 100% seriously and, voila, comedy is born. All the same tropes and plot threads and character arcs that you'd expect from a sports anime but now it's silly even though all the characters are serious about their "sport".

Lu C

Luke already reacted to the OP and also to the full song :)

IamBaum

Yep very good summary. An addition for those who haven't seen it: Imagine a Sumo Match where you have to knock off enemies from a platform, only using your boobas and butt. They also add typical shounen powers / specialities of characters on top of it.

Taiga

I recommend "Ballroom e Youkoso" (Welcome to the ballroom) - which is a dance anime. But honestly, a lot of music animes should also apply here, because they are competing in tournaments etc. So there are music animes like "Kono Oto Tomare", "Mashiro no Oto", where school teams compete in tournaments to a national level.

Covthly

But its so good 😅

Mayhem

Also one of the funny cases of real life emulating anime as there were some irj keijo matches that happed a while back. Also, Gate of Bootylon best move

Nikkelz

Welcome to the ballroom is categorized under sports but the latter two are under preforming arts so they wouldn't be applicable to the tournament.

Grimm Fairy

Sport; Noun - An activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment. Game; Noun - An activity that one engages in for amusement or fun. Death Parade - Genres: Drama, Fantasy, Suspense If you want to be pedantic, at least get it right.

Zer0

Hajime no Ippo needs to be on that list

Lu C

I hope we get real and good sports representatives in the tournament... There are many sports anime that could enter the tournament, because when you check the My Anime List site you can see many entries for sports like: baseball, tennis, basketball, volleyball, football (socket for some), boxing, ice-skating... you can also find several entries for sports like: swimming (+ water polo, diving), rugby, gymnastics, badminton... + here and there are some few series focusing on: American football, running, cycling, archery, dancing (ballroom or other), judo, kendo, golf, cheerleading, airsoft, surfing, futsal, ice hockey, horse racing (not fantasy), sumo, climbing.... etc Some are depicting real sports as they are, others include fantasy /scifi elements, some are fun and rainbows or full of fanservice... The older ones can show also more of the dark side of sports (injuries, harsh training, bad rivals...)

Kigeki

You should watch Redline, great Movie. One of the greatest animated Movies ever. And Keijo is a real banger, Comedy Gold. It's about woman fighting each other with the goal of pushing the others into the water but only with Ass and Boobs and they have rediculous attack names for their attacks like Unlimited Booty Works or Gate of Bootylon referencing Fate/Stay Night attacks xD

iyArashi

I'd recommend Girls und Panzer. One of the greatest sports anime series that's actually still ongoing with 5 films so far on top of the TV series. Another recomendation would be Uma Musume Cinderella Gray for a racing sport and its 2nd season is currently airing. If you want a more conventional sport, I recommend Prince of Tennis.

SD Reunion

Ping Pong is such a beautiful show and it's only like 11 episodes I think. One of those series where you'll be invested in every character.

Ryuk2501

I second Girls und Panzer.

Super Ryo Reacts

2:00 "What sport are they playing?" Only the BEST sport, Luke. Only the best.

Super Ryo Reacts

Whats funny is every time someone mentions Ping Pong, I can only think about the 90's anime "The Ping Pong Club", which is worlds different and absolutely hilarious. And, is the only anime that affects your olfactory senses, you can actually SMELL the anime as you watch it. I cant explain why, I just know it to be true. And it is NOT a good smell. But hilarious anime.

Antoine Coles

Hey Luke if u do a part 2 I highly recommend Girls und panzer.

crazizzle85

A really underrated sports anime came out recently. "cat h me at the ballpark!" Initially the premise is a romance between a beer girl and a fan in the audience. But the show has a large ensemble cast that explored lots of things surrounding Japanese baseball fandom and even in the court stuff. It's not cheesy "good guys always win" either. Highly recommend.

Phillip Grischa

Best sports anime openings, no Haikyu or Yuri on Ice. The title lied to me. :(

EmilianoGX

Who knows, there won't be a reaction to Naruto today?

Kyle Garrett

It'll be fun to see what your first Sports anime is, since that can wildly change your perspective and expectation on what a Sports anime is / should be. For example my first sports anime was Prince of Tennis, and going in blind, and with the anime not even trying to explain things it was a unique experience. It was so absurd it was hilarious, though I was pretty disappointed when I found out not all sports anime is that out there.

Sebastian Hildermann

not sure if it's worth watching nowadays, but Prince of Tennis was cool

Slipstream

Last I checked, bowling, billards, darts, ect are all considered sports. They have professional leagues and often hold televised events. So with that said, I feel you may have to provide Grok some better prompts to do your thinking. :D

Slipstream

Yes, a very worthy entry into the tournament! Sports bro's will rejoice if this one selected since it will last months and months! :)

Nikkelz

Luke had to cancel last nights stream due to internet issues. will be a make up in the future, hopefully won't affect the subathon schedule.

Slipstream

I guess it just depends on how serious you are about sports anime. If you are a casual watcher. You want to make this reaction short and sweet. So a a fun, upbeat comedy that doesn't take itself to seriously sounds very appealing. A one and done anime that allows us to tick the sports genre box and then move on to much more popular genres sounds like the best possible plan to me. Sports genre anime will always appeal only to a very limited audience. Like so many other genre. So you should expect the majority of people will see the logic in using a broad interpretation of what a sports anime is.

Shana

He's done those already.

Slipstream

Judo is an Olympic sport. So martial arts are a sport. Just about anything can be a sport. Tossing bean bags through a hole in a board is a game. Playing video games is a sport. So tags on MAL only represent how MAL feels on the matter. :)

Slipstream

Lot's of people have been recommending Keijo!!!!!!!! to Luke. That's why it was the first one he checked out. It's only the serious sports anime fans that are bent out of shape about Luke watching Keijo!!!!!!!!. lol They fear that Keijo!!!!!!!! will win and then it will be years before we ever circle back to do another sports anime. Fargile ego's are at stake! They dare not contenplate a world where only THEY relish sports anime. Sport's bro's live with the hopium that they can convert the masses. Alas, that is not the case. True sports fans just watch real world sports. Weebs and nerds don't typically care about sports. Not sure why you would want to watch a sports anime unless you intend to self insert into the power fantasy. But, maybe I just don't fully understand.

Toast Ghost

Free! Iwatobi Swim Club has some of best metal openings going

Jason Gentry

... I just realized Air Gear would count as a sports anime...

The Battle Frontier - Pokemon Podcast

I've being say that for years!! if I wanted to see a "real sport" I'd watch NBA, FIFA etc, I don't watch anime to see a real sport unless it got that "anime vibe" to it. for the same reason I watch Yugi-Oh, if I wanted to see a real by the rules game I'd go to a tournament to see real people play it, I watch the anime for the bullshit side of it, the "heart of the cards" part of it if you know what I mean.

Nikkelz

great show! sadly too much nudity for twitch

Nikkelz

Weirdly he's actually not done yuri on ice. another one of the oddities that fell through the cracks, he has seen it in bits through alot of the the top X videos but never the full OP.

Jason Gentry

He could watch it on patreon alone like DXD and such

thewizardninja

You don't understand. It's satire, the comedy comes from knowing the genre. If you walk in without knowing the genre you aren't even going to be able to recognise half of the comedy. The ones that are actually going to "get" Keijo are the direct opposite of the "casual watcher".

Yuririn [ユリリン]

Yessss!!! Ping Pong The Animation is so so SO GOOD! Definitely one anime that I took it to my heart. I'm looking forward to a future where you react to the show, it's only one season, but it's a complete and amazing story.

Jonathan Kinney

Ballroom e Youkoso has the exact same plot as Hajime no Ippo which was a hilarious realization (I love them both dearly)

Teddy Scott

Missing the GOAT (or I guess horse) sports anime: Cinderella Gray

SamJaz

it's well worth watching the MAJOR openings (1-6), all done by the same band, Road to Major.

Kenneth Hoerz

I so want to be voting, but it sucks that every time you have a vote I'm at work. I only made it to one vote. :P

LucyTheBrave02

I would love a reaction to Yuri on Ice. I know it’s also have romantic moments, which is so cute, but the story and focus on the skating is fascinating and amazing ⛸️⛸️

Loredan.N

Bro, where is Inazuma Eleven?

Sebastien Picard

Hey Luke, if you do a part 2 or a separate video altogether, the openings from Ace of diamond, Yowamushi Pedal, Welcome to the Ballroom and Run with the Wind are mostly all bangers. Or doing some YouTube lists like top (insert genre) anime openings could be fun as well, since I feel you've mostly touched upon popular openings but some lesser known ones have yet to be seen!
